Anyone know anything about Mr. Ellsworth's instrument training? I'm doing some research on a few 10 day type programs for someone and this is the main one they are interested in. I also welcome any other suggestions if you have one. He's only interested in places on the east side of the country that have their own aircraft for use.

I went to Mr. Ellsworth a few years ago to finish up my IR. It was supposed to be 4 days of training with a checkride on the fifth day (I had all requirements met but was not proficient).
You do a flight in the morning and a flight in the afternoon with a lot of ground training mixed in.
Ellsworth is retired military Air Traffic Controller and has not kept up on the regulations very well in the 30 years since he retired. He was supprised with some of the answers I gave to his questions and I am not sure I convinced him even when I showed him the relevant text in the AIM. He told me ahead of time that he would line up the examiner. When I arrived he told me the examiner was not available. I called the examiner he mentioned - the examiner went out of his way, changed his schedule and made a slot for me.
After the first flight with Ellsworth (all flights were in VFR weather) I looked at his VOR log and asked him if had done any IFR flights lately since there was no record of a VOR check in the last 5 months. His response was to get out his pen log zero error since "it was right on when we flew today." He spent part of a couple of flights playing with his cell phone to headset connector and talking on the phone. The database for his GPS was out of date so on the third day he went home to get the update, while he was gone I set up the simulator he had purchased for his office computer, he even billed me for this time as ground instruction! (This really bothers me because he spent so much time talking about his alledged Christian faith.) He complained that I was operating his GNS 400 incorrectly but he did not seem to know how to operate it. It did some strange things that no other garmin had ever done to me before or has ever done since. I did not make very good progress under his tuteledge and with bad weather approaching I cancelled with the examiner and caught a flight home early.
I would not recomend traveling from out of town to fly with him (as I did), if you live nearby it might be worth going for a flight with him.

This is my opinion - and it may or may not be worth what you paid for it.

Thanks, for that info! Good thing he went in another direction. I was skeptical when I couldn't find any info on the place.

Is there any recent information on Ellsworth Aviation? My son wants his instrument rating yesterday!, and Ellsworth can start him June 10th, while the others only have start dates in July and August.
