Hey guys,
can anyone point me in the direction of the regs for having electronic charts in a part 135 airplane?

My boss just discovered the ipad and wants to update the operation and do away with jepps? I told him I don't think that's legal but now im curious because im the sad sack that has to update the jepps..

thanks for all the help and ideas.

It all depends on what you POI will approve and puts into your opspecs.

If he buys off on an iPad, then great. However they are not in the habit of sticking their neck out, and useually require some sort of paper backup.

If you want to carry an iPad and "use it for added situational awareness", then go right ahead.

If you haven't approached your POI yet try to have more answeres than he/she has questions. Come prepared. Plan on showing how you'll keep them current, how you adjust for size, light, quick changes in approaches, have power cords or another way to charge the iPad while in flight, have two iPads per plane (one as a backup). It's a battle because (as was stated before) they don't like taking risks. However, it can be done....

I've heard of people carrying a box of NOS charts somewhere in the cabin and using "non-approved" EFBs for uh "situational awareness". I would never do this, obviously, as it seems faintly illegal. Yet difficult to prove...
