Man, I love the initiative and hard work. Good on ya.

But seriously, graduate programs need to get away from "do a survey". They blew 30 years ago, and they still blow. It does nothing but torment the student, literally begging people to participate, and really only serves to regurgitate whatever is already in the cone of silence.

And for the record, the last thing GA needs is a low cost EFIS. The same tech already exists, literally a dime a dozen. What you should really be thinking about is how to eliminate the crushing regulatory burden that goes with it, or, in fact, anything to do with GA. Like how to overhaul the PMA or STC process. That would actually add something to the "body of knowledge". A low cost EFIS system does absolutely zilch because parts costs have driven everyone away because the stuff that actually makes airplanes fly has gotten so expensive.

Thanks for the feedback. The survey was not part of the assignment this time. "Develop a system" is the project, and an EFIS seemed to be relatively simple and straight forward, at least the architecture of it. I wanted to have some end-user feedback for the system development, as a stakeholder, etc. Survey seemed the easy route. Also wanted to see if I could do it open source and get a prototype developed in 9 weeks or so. See if I can advance it with the use of AI. It's been an interesting experience so far.

I agree with you. Low-cost EFIS doesn't do anything for the body of knowledge. Though I just read about Garmin's new headless set up. That looks really neat! Looking through the regulations, it seems like the gap could and should close between an RV owner getting to do his own conditional and a Cessna 172 or 182 owner not. Also, the expense of aftermarket equipment. It would be great to make it easier or more streamlined to bring products to market. Even new production aircraft. All those 172's will need a replacement eventually and at half a million for a new 172, flight schools won't afford that.

One of the annoying things that I discovered was looking at where the regulations have gone. Part 23 now requires "accepted standards" so either the industry standards such as RTCA or you develop your own and prove your methods. The industry standards are now owned and managed by corporations. Guess if a company purchases a subscription is one thing but its another for a smaller developer to spend money for those standards when just a few years ago, they were managed by the government. Not sure how I feels about that, but the gut is mildly annoyed at it. Thanks!!
