Ebay question

So, the last couple of days my ebay password didn't work. Just went through the menus to change your password and made a new password. Still couldn't log on with new password. Called the number on the website and got a call center lady who was probably in India. She ran me though some things and had me log on to ebay.ca (canada) to see if my password worked (it did). Then she asked me to change my password again and during the course of that I noticed a URL of ebay.com/ws....
That freaked me out as I looked up the .ws suffix and it's Samoa. And the lady on the phone had very broken english. So, I just disconnected with her and started playing around with my new password on ebay and noticed even when I go to ebay.com the sign in page has the /ws/ suffix.

Can somebody who knows more about the internet explain what the /ws/ means at the ebay sign in page: https://signin.ebay.com/ws/eBay....

Maybe this is my day to be paranoid. Thank Gawd I'm off this week. Thanks in advance.

The /ws/ is just a directory. If it were part of the URL prior to the / then you'd be more concerned (like if it were signing.ebay.com.ws).

Nothing wrong with being paranoid on the web, there are many tricks played by the scumbags.

And change your Facebook password often.

The new thing is to trick you out of your password, download your information (and your friends) and sell that on the black market. Basically, when you call Chase (not the goofy kid from California, but like a credit card company) to "reset your password", the security information many of us use (maiden names, first high school, favorite teacher, etc) is right there.

And if your friends are sharing with "world", they probably don't necessarily need to be your friends.

All hail WIRED Magazine.
