Eagle Pilot has impromptu pizza party

With all the pilot bashing going on in the media lately I wanted to spread the word of great people in this industry. This was in the Dallas Morning News letter to the editor.

Eagle pilot does his part

With the trouble we have been having with rain and delayed flights, we had an unusual experience on American Eagle last week.

Just as we were 10 minutes out of D/FW, we were diverted to Waco. With no idea how long the wait would be, our pilot had pizza delivered to the entire plane, which he paid out of his own pocket. He would not accept any cash from any of us, saying it was his party.

One hears of so many nightmare stories about flying lately that I'd like to thank Capt. Mike Smith of American Eagle.

I'm surprised they even published it. I figured a news agency would love to ignore something like this in an effort to keep the image of pilots as all ####### pricks. lol

There's a lot of truth to that.

That pilots are pricks? Or that the media wants it to look that way?

The latter I'm sure.

All pilots (as seen on JC) are not pricks. :)

Doug,

If I didn't believe it, I wouldn't have said it. The media can be a real evil thing. Especially with Rupert Murdoch starting to buy everyone out. One man's agenda will gradually take over this country faster than Bush's. lol

Lemme clarify.

Generally when a pilot goes "above and beyond", it doesn't register a return on the media's radar screen.

However if one of your packs goes tango uniform and you fight like heck to get back to the ramp in JFK during a peak period, you have Ray Neidl writing an article about how the dinosaur legacy carriers are all to blame and labors stranglehold on the operation is what's breaking down the system, paradigm shifts and whatnot! ;)

Dear Dough,

I recently flew on Delta and my bag was lost. Why did you lose my bag? I'll never fly your airline again. :)

I think I read a different version of this story somewhere else:
Eagle Captain Tempts Dieters

On a recent flight to DFW, a pilot chose to divert to Waco rather than continue to the final destination. He then thought he could bribe the passengers by giving them carb and fat loaded pizza.

"I don't know how he could even think this is okay.", said Jeanette Smith, a type II diabetic.

Rumor has it the pizza wasn't even that warm.

I think I read about this story somewhere else.

Come on dude....very easy to verify. No need to stir things up. Unless of course you forgot the sarcasm tags....

the media twist could have easily been...

"Pilot unsafely opens doors as a/c is on the ramp, thereby creating safety hazard...." :sarcasm:
