I believe my class touched on it briefly, but I was told it was very rarely used.
I use it a few times per year and we still refer to it as 3585.
Its good to know its not used very much at least.
Are there specific situations that it comes into play? Like during widespread winter storms?
On occasion, winter wx vis can do it, but generally airports that have higher mins prone to lower cigs, like KSAN.
That was the last place I used it. SAN was down and LAX was down but also the preferred backup, and ONT was the solid one
Think of 3585 as "poor man's catII"Most of the time 3585 is used at airports without catII/III approaches or if they are notamed out or if the aircraft is cat I due MELs.
