does anyone still use them? I have the iPad app but understand they are only funded through March 2015.

Alex.

Duats made an ipad app? Wow. I am genuinely surprised they embraced that level of technology. Is it safe to assume that app is not at all intuitive or user friendly?

I use DUATS everytime I fly. However, I'm always open to new things. I like the Lockheed site, just signed up.

I haven't used it since my Private, but relied on aviationweather.gov for Commercial and phoning the briefer for CFI.

As a free service it's pretty good - Like with NACO charts I don't want to have to subscribe to Jeppesen/Foreflight as an individual. If the company is paying that's another matter.

Still used by some. On the funding, they are lobbying for pilots to say they should be kept. I'm thinking with the availability of smartphone & tablet apps, third party sites like FltPlan.com, and the upgrades (and interactivity initiatives) of LockMart, DUAT's days are probably numbered. Kind of a shame - they've been providing good service for more than 20 years - but time marches on.

If Lockheed and FltPlan plug into their data then there should still be an officially recognised free path to this.

Happy for others to lead the way technologically, am not sure CSC can claim that.

Gave it up with my pager and dot matrix printer in 1998. I think a requirement is to have an AOL email and a 2400 baud modem.

FYI Foreflight now plugs directly into Lockheed FSS. With a mobile connection you can use Foreflight to open and close VFR flight plans even. Pretty handy actually.

Very. Especially for DC SFRA flight plans.
I hope you aren't saying you're activating and closing your DC SFRA flight plan on Foreflight. That isn't possible. Filing a DC SFRA flight plan is very easy unless it's a FRZ flight plan and you still have to call.

There is a mode on Foreflight for doing DC SFRA flight plans. You still have to call approach to pick it up, but you can file with it.

Agreed for the FRZ. I'm waiting for my PIN right now.

I have the paperwork ready for the PIN process, sounds fun, will do it on my next trip over.

Where do you fly out of? Secure Duats is obviously needed for this purpose...
