DTW based pilots: Areas to live near the airport?

You east state people are so cute...

@SteveC knows what’s up.

Not sure if you’re referencing the Broncos or the western side of the state in general, but - the west coast of Michigan is, bar none, the best kept secret in the country. Continue to tell my better half that we’ll hold off on owning a home in the city we live in, let’s get a TVC house first.

West half in general. I’m a GRR boy. Wife and i are counting the days till we can move home.

I grew up in Canton, But moved to Royal Oak. I say RO is the place to be.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. So you think Royal Oak is a better bet than Ann Arbor for prices and to maintain a modicum of social life? I'm not into the 'college town' type of scene (is that A2?)but neither the generic suburb. Does Royal Oak have a cohort of younger adults and some options for meeting up?

Traverse is fantastic. In the summer, anyway.

A2 has a college town vibe near campus, but S. Main Street doesn’t have the same vibe, lots of nice restaurants and shops with some of the best upscale bars. It’s only a few more blocks away, but the students don’t really wander west of Division street (stay away from N/S University dr) Both Royal Oak and Ann Arbor have a ton going on Meetup if you are looking to find a group.

Looking to move within ~30-45mins, at the most, from DTW. Any suggestions on good areas to live for a mid to late twenties male? I know the Ann Arbor area offers a lot to do, but it's awfully expensive, especially for someone without roommates. Anyone experienced Ypsi? I've visited the Royal Oak area before and not so sure it's for me. I'm a MI native, just too far of a drive from the DTW currently.

You can probably set up an RV in @SpiceWeasel’s driveway in AA. Maybe you can text him and he’ll bring out freshly squeezed lemonade!

Lived in Royal Oak with a friend about 8 years ago. It was a lot of fun, but outgrew it rather quickly. Now I live in the suburbs and do old man chores...
