Drunk/criminal pilots

Danger in the cockpit! :)

Blood on the J-routes! (like the Driver's Ed films in high school)

An American Airlines pilot flunked two sobriety tests before a 7 a.m. flight out of Detroit.

An Alaska Airlines pilot flew a commercial plane from California to Oregon and back again, all while allegedly drunk.

Yet another pilot, from United, allegedly moonlighted as a pimp, running half a dozen brothels out of apartments in Houston, according to authorities.

The cases are enough to frighten the flying public, and are not isolated, according to a FoxNews.com investigation. Documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request show that while the overwhelming majority of men and women at the cockpit controls are law abiding and responsible, too many fly – or attempt to fly – intoxicated, and even engage in criminal behavior after they touch down.
"According to FAA data, there is no leveling off or decrease in this trend, in fact drug use seems to be climbing," said Peter Bartos, a retired military pilot with an FAA Airline Transport Pilot license, who reviewed the FAA data for FoxNews.com. “The general public probably has no idea that this abuse is occurring with such regularity at certain airlines.” (continued)

I bet very soon we are going to have to blow into breathalyzers at the podium in front of the gate agent and pax just to get let out to the airplane. (Sarcasm)

Or more likely some idiot will walk up with a personal one and demand I blow into it. (Reality)

This kind of story comes up about every once in a while. When I was a kid, it was about Delta pilots (especially when they had a spate of issues) and later on when MADD was in full-political-swing there were a few stories about drunk pilots.

It comes and goes.

Clickbait.

I think a way better and much more fresh clickbait article that Fox should write is something like "When your airline pilot goes to the hotel, there's wireless internet, what they're browsing late at night WILL SHOCK YOU" and then go into the 'tubes, the 'hubs, etc.

"Internet flesh monger at night, FLYING YOUR CHILDREN TO DISNEY THE NEXT DAY and airlines and hotels sit idly by…"

The media will do anything to try and get ratings.

They wan't the breathalyzer for pilots but if legislation was proposed to do that in cars the public would be outraged. We lose far more people to drunk drivers than pilots. I can't think of one US carrier that had a flight issue with a drunk pilot. I bet the sheeple would also bitch about the $xx breathalyzer fee that probably would get added to the tickets, just to maintain the machine and admin the tests.

GO AWAY! BAITIN'!!!!

Has a plane ever crashed due to a drunk pilot...has a car ever crashed?
I remember on the Jeppesen Handbook (Can't remember if it was Private or Commercial/Instrument) were 2 accident reports, one on a drunk pilot and the other under Cocaine IIRC. But try to explain that this would be the exception to the general public...
