Drug Testing?

Hi there, a week ago I was in the car on the way to our summer vacation when one of my mates lit a joint and proceeded to smoke it with the rest of the people in the car. Even though I didn't have any I still would have inhaled some. The problem is that in the next two weeks I have to get my Class 1 medical and just wondered if a drug test was required? By the way I in no way condone the smoking of drugs.

Thanks guys for the help,
Regards Ryan

Class I does not test for drugs. But in the meantime, stop hanging out with people who do drugs. Seriously man.

No I'm from New Zealand however I suspect the rules will be similiar between the two countries. If anyone from New Zealand can say for sure that would be great.

Doug my mates arn't regular users, the only reason it was going on was because we had just finished a year of slugging over our accounting exams and everyone just decided to let there hair down.

Thanks so much for the replys guys

if you aren't a regular smoker it won't show after a couple days to a week anyway....but since you say you didn't even smoke, you have nothing to worry about.

drugs are bad....mmmkaaayyy

God, it's so screwed up.

You can be flying the last leg of your day and while you're sneaking under the FAA regs for duty time, you've been up for close to 20 hours and you're hungry as hell on top of it, but you're legal.

But smoke pot once and you jeopardize your medical.

Which is more dangerous? The exhausted pilot in the first situation, or a guy who smoked the wacky weed a week before?

Its a total joke man. Also when you are on reduced rest(8 hours), they can call you in your hotel room to tell you that you are dutying on 5 mins later in the morning to make things legal for the next day. 8 hours reduced rest= 5-6 hours sleep then they wake you up in the middle of it to tell you that crap. That ends up being like 2 or 3 hours of useful sleep most likely.. Its funny sometimes they will cancel a flight because the pilots have timed out and its considered dangerous to have fatigued pilots. Then the company tries to say well your still legal under part 91 how bout a repo flight. As you can tell its an issue I am quite passionate about. The FAA rest rules are in need of a major overhaul. They are a total joke right now as things stand. A fatigued pilot with many lives in his hands is much more of a danger than someone who once smoked a joint would ever be.

You know Cosmo, I always told Crew Tracking to go ahead and call me, even if it was only five minutes. There was something psychological about getting even an extra five minutes to sleep in!!!

Sometimes it was Dispatch calling. They always apologized for waking me but I always said "No it's all right! Thank you for calling! I LOVE sleeping in, even if it's only five minutes."

Mesa had some very cool (and competent) dispatchers when I was there, although they were incredibly overworked, as at all commuters.

Crew Tracking had some bright spots, and most were willing to listen. There were a few notable exceptions!

Dude I went to a concert and couldn't get away from the clouds of weefer smoke. Well, week and a half later I get accepted at a new job and YUP you guessed it, get busted for having THC show up in my whiz quiz. HR called me and told me to seek counseling and when I explained I was at a concert she was like, "ya right" type of attitude. I went there with my tix stub and showed her and then asked for them to quantify my specimen. This would show how much was in my system. I offered to pay for the test myself. Well, they did a 2nd quiz and quantified my results and they decided that I did get THC in my system from 2nd hand smoke.

And for what Doug said, lose the losers dude!!!! They will only bring you down!!!!
