This is just too cool

Damn. Those numbers are impressive. I guess if you have the know-how and the money, extraordinary things are possible. I'd only intended to watch some of the video and got sucked into all of it.

The part about his stall speed is particularly interesting to me.

Me too. I started watching and next thing I knew 20 minutes was gone. I'd like to have a beer or 8 with that guy.

If I were to draw up an image in my head of a guy who ends up burying himself by putting too much power into an airframe not designed for it, it would be this dude in the cowboy hat.

Why do you think this is likely? If you watch the videos, he talks about the structural aspects of the airplane as well as the improvements he made to it.

I'm thanking you're thinking Lancair IV turboprop conversion and more money than skills rather than this dude

I talked to him and a few other of the flying cowboys at Oshkosh. He said he has well over a million dollars in that thing

Must be nice.

I have to admit. Watching that plus the Low and Slow videos makes me itch to own a bush-plane. I do like low-tech tailwheel flying and that's sure as heck a way to do it...

"Turbulance" is based on and registered as a Lancair Legacy. It's a two seater and significantly smaller than a Lancair IV. Really impressive. I have never heard of these guys before. We have a Lancair 360 (basis for the Legacy) based at my airport that will chase down jets as well. That was no surprise

You could be like 90% of the cub and husky owners. Get 31 or 35 inch tires, double slotted flaps, vgs (in other words spend a fortune) and then never land on anything but grass and gravel where literally anything can land.

I got really lucky (though I didn't appreciate it at the time) when I did my TW endorsement in a Super Cub that had 31" tires. We did some sandbar landings which were really cool. Enjoyed the hell out of that and it made me appreciate the capabilities. I do get your point. I think a simple Citabria and grass strips would scratch a lot of the itch...but the wanderlust is there...
