Doug, do you guys load bags now to?

[ QUOTE ]
Considering that bag loading is well outside if my job scope, if I got hurt I wouldn't be covered by workmen's comp.

That's not true you know /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You're still covered but there might be an audit afterwards!

Trust me Doug if you helped out about the only thing you would have to worry about it sweating. The best and biggest help I have seen pilots do is either bring down gate claims or actually just push the bags over from the otherside of the cart so we can reach them. I doesnt sound like much but trust me it helps and we do appreciate it. Got to remember we are working 3 man gate crews on narrow bodies and on an -88 you need to in the back bins. I did notice in PHX yesterday at gate 15 they had like 8 guys around that 757. Man how I long for a small station atmosphere again.

When I was in JFK flying back home to BUF there were major delays due to security so the gate agents had to go and find passengers who were going to miss their flight. jetBlue was very kind and assured that they wouldn't leave without any passengers that were checked in. I got to my gate just in time for boarding and the First Officer on my flight was taking our tickets and letting us on the plane, our agent was apparently busy. It gave me a chance to say hello and was nice to see all the teamwork. In the end we departed 20 minutes late but arrived on time, we had about a 40 minute flight.

I once saw a Delta 727 captain at GSO scanning tickets at the gate. I was able to speak with him for awhile before the flight left, might have been his retirement flight. If not it was pretty close to when the 727's were being retired.
