Don't trust the ATO

boy you folks are spoiled, over 95% are passing this joke of a screen and one guy washes out and your all worried. try going through the old screen when 50% washed. what do you think that once you pass OKC your home free? ATC isnt easy, its tales alot to get through training and even more to make it 25 years.

Sorry if you're some hotshot, but your post makes you seem like an a.ss.hole and a half... We have so much invested here and to be so much of a prick makes you lose more credibility than the guy who you are referring to.

My $.02

What do you have invested?
queeno tells it like it is. Aviation is a cold bitch.

What do I have invested? You mean other than about 50k in flight time, 15k in school, two aviation degrees, and a CTI certificate? What do you have invested? A thousand posts on a half-rate aviation website and ten minutes applying to a pubnat?

Aviation may be a cold bitch to some, but to me (and many others) it is life.... I am making 78,900 a year at my job now and cant wait for a shot at ATC. Passion means a whole lot more than being a post w.hore here.

Excuse me for the tirade but come on dip/.... Lets get a legitimate post back...............

Go to another thread to get your pat on the back. This guy (Swinte00) was a great contributor to this site and gave a lot of newbies some valuable insight on what to expect. He was even keeping a blog of his time in OKC. The people responding to his post are offering condolences and your post did nothing for anyone. Except maybe cause us to lose some respect for some of our aging controllers.

Sorry to hear Swinte, hope everything works out in the future for you.

No pubnat for me to old and I like being a pilot.

As a pilot, you should know how little things can get you a pink slip on a ride.

Go ask a guy on the street if being off by 5 feet is to much and my guess is he will say no, but in our world it is. A lot of the pubnat guys/girls might not like it but the true is a little thing can and will bust you.

I'm sorry, what's the point here? Swinte didn't make excuses, he admitted his failure. This isn't the place to say you suck, dude just lost something he's wanted for a long time. Quit being an <edited>, and learn some word usage, spelling, and grammar. If you're going to be a post <edited> you'll need it.

Edit: I see now why you can <edited> on here. You're a bitter furloughed pilot. Sorry!

Where is being 5 feet off a life or death issue while flying?? I have landed 20' off the centerline and put her down softer than you have touched? You want something within 5 feet? how about you grab a measuring tape and measure the wing-span of a Cessna? (do you know what a Cessna is?)
If you're within 5 feet, I will respect you.... Actually, I wont.

My two cents.

Sometimes it's scary to think that washouts wasted so much time waiting.:(:(:( Good luck in your career Swinte.

Well I have been a member of this website for a little over 4 years and have gotten a lot of help from members of the website. That is kind of the point of this website.

I never took a shot at Swinte. You are right is sucks busting a ride or a test. But my post was aimed at the people who seem upset because it is a little thing that busted him.

I am not a bitter pilot. Come out to Vegas for NJC and see for you self.

It isn't and that is my point. If the PTS is +/-50 feet and your 55 feet off game over, and maybe careers over. One of the guys in my new hire class busted his PC because he was 5 kts slow on his SE ILS. It is just the way aviation is.

I don't think people were upset about it being a little thing that busted him, it was the first person that we've communicated with that washed. I agree that this website is for help/support but what queeno offered and you supported helped no one. Again, the trouble is that him failing made the possibility a reality, before it was just a statistic.

Look queeno might not be a nice person, and it would be nice if he picked a better way to get his point across. Like Velo on the pilot side. But like Velo a lot of what he has to say is true.

Now back to the thread

Swinte it sucks, good luck

Well since someone wanted to whine about me calling you a "bad word" (ooh, idiot.... bad :() I am not sure if this post will last long, but his posts have been far more informative than the thousand something you have aimlessly put on here..

I for one feel sorry for him and hope he gets another chance. Who cares if he is a "good person" by your standards? I dont... If he is a good controller and has no outlying issues, who the hell are you to say otherwise?

Hey everyone,

Been out sick for a few days with a stomach bug and wanted to check back in.

I never meant for my earlier post to be depressing, or to strike the fear of God into anyone, but in all reality 95%-97% pass rates mean that anywhere from 3 to 5 in 100 MMAC students won't make it. A small percentage, at that, but a solemn reminder that it COULD be you. We had 2/26 not make it including our sister class (that's 7.69%). I hope that nobody else on this forum experiences the same thing that I did.

I knew my Academy procedures. I knew the .65. I knew what the simulator would and would not take. HOWEVER, there are no strict grading guidelines for the PV. It's up to your evaluator.

Thank you to everyone on this site for your help, support, and well-wishes. Thank you to those of you who attempt to keep everyone "in-check" *cough*QUEENO*cough*. Although I never really understood your input, it's still valuable to hear from a veteran's perspective from time to time. Although I'll never understand what it's like to be in your shoes, perhaps some of the other posters on here will. Either way, I would never wish that kind of bitterness upon anyone.

I can tell that the majority of posters on this site will do just fine at the Academy. When you get to your facility, that's when the real training begins. Take some time to talk to the veteran controllers and get the cold hard truth, not some Academy BS that they feed you in OKC.

As always, if anyone needs anything, shoot me a PM and I'll give you my email/phone number if you're in my area.

Thank you all again for your kind words and support. It makes me happy to know I've been able to help some of you out along the way.

A few things:

1. I just wanted to say that I'm not buying this 95-97% pass rate. Seems to me that roughly 1-2 people per class have been failing. That's more like 85-93% depending on the class size.

2. It wasn't an issue where they said +/- 50 and he was at 55. They said 310 was the limit and that's where he was. It wasn't a little mistake on his part, it was an inconsistency on theirs that we're complaining about.

3. Queeno's posts make him sound like and a s s h o l e because he is an a s s h o l e. A big itchy one. He's never denied it. I think he prides himself in it. His "insight" is valuable only as a cautionary tale of what not to become. Ignore him and he goes away.

I guess it depends on how you define class. Are you only counting the 18 people you're actually with, or do you include the sister class as well which just goes during a different part of the day? When my friend finished there was only 1 person out of 36 who didn't pass, which falls right into that range of 95-97%

My class had 18 and 4 failed the first time, all 4 failed the second time too. It's all over the board from class to class... but I too don't buy the 95%+ pass rate...

Swinte... I've gotta ask... why not take this up with the appropriate parties? If I was told something in class was fine and was told by Raytheon later that it was a deal, I'd raise hell about it.
