Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

It just shows the lack of decorum their passengers have, and how SWA upsets their passengers regularly!!

The TV show it is based of in the UK, they show problems but how Easyjet goes to the end of the world to solve them. It puts the airline in great light, and they do sow interesting people who are travelling who have no problems!

Re: Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

Good or Bad, the free publicity can hurt their bottom line. I can honestly say that I would probably avoid them because of that very circus atmosphere. The few times I have come across them in the terminals it is a madhouse.

Re: Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

I have a "LUV-hate" relationship with Southwest.

I hate the type rating requirement. I hate the phony smile you see all the time in DAL.

However, I have never been treated better by any airline. In particular, they treat non-revs better than anyone! You get to PRE-BOARD as a jumpseater.

Lately, as a "regular" passenger they have gone the extra mile to accomodate me, my wife and my daughter. Their phone CSRs are the most helpful anywhere.

The only airline that comes close to them is jetBlue.

Other airlines I've flown recently (judging customer service and accomodation):
Trans Meridian was pretty good
Delta was fair to good
Chautauqua was very good
United was ok
USAirways was AWFUL

Re: Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

I flew DAL a while back and they were great.
Flew airtran and they were medicore
-only peanuts and water
flew air wisonsin and they were pleasant, but late to the gate.(very on both legs)
flew united while my girl was on USAIR
-united treated me very well with great service and an early arrival.....usair stranded my gf (andh her whole group) in charlotte 48 hours before a marathon she was running in new orleans.....didnt offer any assistance, and the best they could do was a 10 am flight the next day.

grade for usair--F.....makes one wonder why they are going out of business.

Re: Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

PreBoard as jumpseater? Not When i Jumpseat on them. They are nice however, but so are 99% of all the other crews out there. Having Southwest as your employer doesnt make you the greatest in anything.

But, I think the show regardless of the content, will be a bonus for southwest.

Re: Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

They must not like you! Everytime I jumpseated I was pre-boarded. Every time I board a Southwest flight nowadays I see non-revs and jump seaters in the pre-board line.

What did you do????

Re: Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

This show is doing wonders for Southwest, whoever watches the show will always have Southwest in the back of their minds. Southwest is coming out as smelling like a rose.

Re: Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

I think one thing the show is showing is how dumb people can really be. Evertytime I watch it there seems to be a drunk who acts like most drunks and insists he/she is not intoxicated but gets very loud and abusive.

I don't think its bad publicity at all though for Southwest cuase as stated its getting there name out.

Re: Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

Now, I know that I'm already hated because I think that Southwest is the greatest thing since turbine engines, but I think the show is made just so that the airline generates buzz. When you create buzz, you get customers.

As far as the circus goes, I'll take it anyday, as will most Americans. It's what the people want - me included!

Re: Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

Forget it. I don't want that circus crap. Get me on my plane and get me on my way, please, and if you can't do that, or in the case of Southwest, won't because the cattle car is part of your culture, you won't get my business.

I know that makes me weird, but the last thing I want to do is go on air Greyhound. It's kind of how I never shop at Wal-Mart.

Well, that's one less person that you have to compete with for the seat in the cattle call, right?

To each his own.

Re: Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

I don't mind the airline but boy I cannot stand the clientele.

You know the type that will stand in the boarding area 45 minutes in advance with that blasted lanyard carrying their ticket and their ID (like they've got some backstage pass for Spinal Tap)... Then run on the jet, put their bags in the first couple of overheads and start throwing newspapers on seats surrounding them so their cousin bubba has somewhere to sit because he's at the snack bar dressin' his hot dawg.

Re: Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

Ah, yes, I know the type. And then when they fly a different airline, and are told, no, there are assigned seats on this one, they think that it's the craziest thing they've ever heard of in their life.

Southwest has a great business model. It's one that I never want to be a customer of, but some people love it.

[shrugs shoulders]

Re: Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

I play whatever game is appropriate for the airline I'm flying. But, I do love the Southwest "No Assigned Seating" policy. Works out great for me! If you want your seat, get there early - and if everybody gets there early, we'll be in the groove!!

(Why do I get the feeling that I'm hated because I like this airline as much as everyone else hates it???)

I don't hate the airline. I really don't. I just don't ever want to fly on them. I'm one of those guys who, on September 10, 2001, showed up at the counter at IAD exactly 47 minutes before the departure time. And I would have shown up another 17 minutes later if I didn't have to check my golf clubs!

Even with the longer check in times due to the additional screening, I still don't like to arrive hours early just to get a decent seat. I'd rather reserve it before and know that if I get to the gate two hours early or five minutes before boarding, I'll still have that seat.

Re: Does the TV show \'airline\' do anything for SWA

Noooo you're not hated, dummy! It's a difference of opinion!

I figure if I've got to drive 40 minutes to the airport, check in at the skycap to get a boarding priority, credit 20 minutes into getting thru security to arrive at the gate an hour in advance having to stand in the boarding corral for almost an hour in the "A Boarding Group" just to ensure a seat next to my wife, I think I'd rather drive or fly an airline with assigned seating.

It might just be my bad experiences in LAS with SWA. For some reason, that place reminds me a lot of Dante's Inferno!

Personally, the one experience I've had on SWA was a good one. I found the boarding policies to be fine by me. I got a seat, I got to where I was going and while boarding I noticed that every other airline had lines to board their planes too.... but SWA's were more organized.

I also like flying on Delta, Continental, Northwest......... an airline is an airline is an airline to me. It gets me from point A to point B. The rest means absolutely bumkus to me.

The only airline that I really DON'T ENJOY FLYING ON is US Airways. Let's all just face it, they suck. I really feel sorry for their employees, but I do believe that they've run out of options.....
