Does the CA remain PIC on transoceanic flights when asleep in the back?

If you're on the last leg of a four day trip and the CA strokes out just as the cabin and cockpit door is closed, you're like "OH HELLLL NO!, I want to go home". So you push Capt Bernie out of the seat, do the start up, push back, taxi out, T/O, landing and then call for the ambulance. You can only log SIC.

(who caught the Weekend at Bernie's reference?)

That is just beyond sad. No wonder there's no one level of safety.....Hell, you can't even get a decent meal and a bunk.

David Abney (CEO):

“Peak season 2014 provided us an opportunity to deliver excellent service during periods where UPS volume more than doubles. To meet the challenge, we invested in capacity with new facilities, automation and expanded operations. It was important to fortify the trust of customers and protect our brand and from that perspective, UPS was successful.

UPSers around the world went the extra mile to ensure service levels remained high throughout the holiday season and our customers were delighted with the results. The management team and I received numerous calls and emails from customers of all sizes. They expressed their appreciation for the efforts of UPSers. This included our pilot group who happily gave up having real meals or any real sleep and decided instead to just strangle themselves with their shoulder harnesses.” Happy Holidays!

Generally at the point you have to ask the question, the question is moot.

I woulda returned to the gate errr hard stand for that one.

We didn't look at the catering before TOC. I'm sure they ran out of catering in ONT and some kid was dispatched to the nearest place to get food which happened to be 7-11. Sadly, there is a pretty decent Avocado Burger that is open 24 hours very close by. Kid probably figured he'd get fired if he wasn't back in 10 minutes so he hit 7-11. This is an extreme example. The catering out of Penang, HNL, and Japan is generally quite good.
