Does the CA remain PIC on transoceanic flights when asleep in the back?

Yes he does since he signed for the flight. Augmented crew is an interesting subject. The relief pilot will "sign" for the plane in cruise, but does not assume true PIC duties.

Trust me. You can be in back on break, completely asleep and still make the trip to the 'big brown desk' if one of the other two pilots screw up.

No different than Capt of a ship, when said ship has an accident while he's in his cabin and a subordinate officer is in charge of the bridge.

Just remember. The captain always goes down with the ship!

We'd like to think so:(

How does logging flight time work on the long flights?
Do you get to log it even if you are in back napping?

Captain is always PIC.
Copilots are generally SIC (both FOs, even when flying 'relief')

I say "generally" because technically I've heard that you can log PIC when you're relieving the captain and in his seat. I guess. I don't know. If so, I cracked 17 hours of PIC turbine years ago but even if legal, I wouldn't claim it.

C'mon man! Acting vs sole manipulator! Do we need to resurrect these ad nauseum threads from the CFI section here! Good enough for a Seminole, good enough for a 767!

:D :D :D

FDX wouldn't want me. I greatly embarrassed one of their pilots quite publicly in the "Drop the Mic" incident at OBAP a few weeks ago. :)
Did you do it while eating cake?

At some point you'll stop hearing about the cake but I'd give it at least 10-15 years after you retire.
