Does anybody have any weird rituals prior to flying?

Does anyone literally kick the tires during their walk around like I do? I kick the mains just to make sure they're really inflated. Don't ask me why, I think it's pretty stupid, but I do it.

Ahh yes, always take the PDP, especially after the new security procedures.

Besides a PDP (or PDU if you want to be technical), I really don't do anything special.

Probably the only weird thing I do is set my travel alarm clock, my 'white noise' machine alarm, the hotel alarm and my wristwatch alarm on layovers.

I'm mega paranoid about sleeping thru pickup so knowing that I'm going to have a cacophony of sound in the morning helps me sleep a little better. Else, I'm up every hour making sure I have it set correctly.

It's kinda a dorky one and not so Pre-Flight but at some point during my flight I always take a few seconds to sit back and just enjoy the moment for a second or two...

Just an interesting comment about pre-departure activities. A few years ago I was flying contract right seat for a lawyer on his Falcon 100. He made his money by suing the tobacco compamies a few years ago, and personally got several millions in fees. We took him to a meeting in TX to look at a hunting ranch (gotta spend some of that money somewhere) and when he arrived back at the FBO to go home, he requested a break just before we boarded his plane. He needed to go smoke a cig before we left. I always thought that was kinda ironic.

I do this paranoid thing where I look over almost every square inch of the plane and poke and prod and fiddle with stuff before I ever even hop in.

Hey it'd be weird if we did that with cars, wouldn't it?

How about a different kind of PDP, a brief Pre-Departure Prayer, "Dear Lord, please don't let me screw up."

i talk to the airplane as i walk around it. i want the airplane to be an extension of my arms, legs, and eyes, so you might as well start getting accustomed to treating it as such. sometimes i give it a rub and a pat on the hood as i'm checking the front end, but my girlfriend caught me doing that to an arrow once and she got pissed

I generally go after the basic necessities; I make sure that there is two wings, some sort of landing gear, and enough gas, i dont get into the picky stuff

No, the patting and rubbing of the plane is not weird, anytime that i'm on a commercial flight I like to touch the outside of the plane as I board.

I kick the tyres during the pre-flight (no real reason - it's just something that has to be done), and then when I'm done flying for the day, I kiss her on the nose. (Not directly, but on my hand first, then slap it on her spinner!)

Speaking of spinners ----->
