Doc won't allow access to my records?

I'm trying to get copies of my medical records, but the doctor is saying that I, as the patient, can not just go in and receive copies of my own records, they can only be submitted to another doctor. Is this completely bogus or just normal procedure? Can I have them released to the AME directly? Will they do this by mail or what? Interestingly, they were willing to tell me my diagnosis over the phone without even verifying who I was! What do you think about that? So much for privacy. Thanks

WRONG!!!!!!!! HIPPA says you are entitled to a copy. They can charge you for photocopying but you are entitled. A refusal can lead to a Federal fine if you complain.

You can sign a records request to have them transferred to the AME and that will cost you nothing.
