Do you recognize pilots?

I guess this would be more for TRACON and Tower controllers:
Do you ever start to recognize voices?

If so, is there anybody you dread checking on?

You guys have to have some stories. :laff:

Years, many many years past the statute of limitations years ago, the tower controllers at SGF used to ASK the FLX guys whether we could do a formation landing/takeoff. Did I say "we"? I meant "they". I think they recognized us. I mean them.

LOL WUT? man you gotta get those extra voices in your head checked out!

I know that at least one gal from Fort Worth Center knows my voice and name.... and at least one dude with Houston Tracon... we all went to school together...

i definitely recognize voices. obviously those with unique sounding voices really stand-out. the complete jerks stand out too. if one of the latter voices come on frequency u can bet that he's the one that's gonna be vectored out for sequence if there's a tie between him and ANYONE else.

there's a certain female voice that flies for Frontier into Vegas consistently. i'd love to see how hot/or not she is. she sounds like a 10+

She is a 10. Forget about meeting her. Your better of not knowing the truth.

There is one controller that has been working my region as long as I've been around (8 years) she is a talented flirt and a lot of fun.

I certainly wish there was more opportunity for pilot/controller get togethers. I think if we all knew one another it would make for a much better experience. Over the years I've been able to meet about half of the local controllers I work with and it has certainly improved communications and we get along a lot better when there is a face behind the voice.

my most favorite place to work was at a tower in arizona. it was 75% flight school traffic so the instructors would always bring their students up to the tower. relations there were awesome. we busted our behinds to help out the students, and the instructors were always helping us out. a beautiful thing when pilots and controllers find mutual respect and camaraderie.

im a fan of a few specific controllers

one gal at chicago approach who always is super cheerful and reminds you to HAVE A FANNNNTASTIC DAY! when you sign off

and

the guy at jax center who always signs off in various foreign languages (sayonara, arrividerci, etc etc)... i always try and stump him with a new language!

IWA? Ryan? Deer Valley?

I used to bring my students up to the tower at Willie all the time to see the other side of things. The controllers (it was a SERCO tower) were always great in explaining things. If I recall almost all of them were ex military and the Army and AF guys would spend most of their day making fun of the Navy/Marine guys.

The guys in ORF know our tail numbers now, and I honestly believe they try to help us out as much as possible. One of the senior guys knows my voice and he always tries to say hello if at all possible.

A buddy of mine from college works at PBI and I always make sure to ask for someone to tell him hello and/or do so myself if he's plugged in. It REALLY helps to have friends in high places during those post-holiday rush hours down there.

We'll have friends for life at PNE now after we took them all biscuits and gravy from Cracker Barrel one morning. It started as a joke as we were clearing the runway after landing, and a couple hours later we were buzzing the front gate to deliver them.

That could definitely be a trap! Unfortunately, voices are a terrible indication of what one looks like.

Edit: I did see above that this girl is a 10, but I've been tricked by voices before.

There's definitely an advantage of meeting controllers/pilots and forming a relationship. I know all the controllers at our tower and they know my voice. As an instructor it helps because they'll help us out whenever we need it. Also, they can rely on us if they require any special assistance, etc. It makes the job feel like you have co-workers.

I really, really want to meet one of the LGB controllers. Hearing her voice, there's no way she's not a 9 or a 10.

Yes it is. At my old flight school, we worked so well with the controllers, I really thought as them as co-workers.

It got to a point where my students in certain tail numbers would check on for taxi, and the tower controller/manager would give me a "good morning".

It is good to hear that the good relationships between pilot and controller can continue on for guys flying bigger and fast machines.

St Augustine ATC has always been the friendliest people I have ever dealt with. I always enjoy flying in there.

Makes for a better experience all around.

When I first flew in there as a student pilot I was shocked at how nice and accomodating they were. It really breaks the "scared to talk" radio routine.

Yep, I was on the ATP ramp at Willie from 2004 to 2005.

You guys were great to work with, even with that stupid 777 doing touch and goes on 30R and the Samurai from Ryan dorking up the 30L pattern.

sweet. those yellow bonanzas were dangerous.

i loved working your blue tail seminoles. i could count on you guys doing about 4 practice approaches to 30C, then a circle to land 12R. ouch...always a pain, but in the tower we kept a tally on who approved the most ATP circling approaches in a month. it showed some skill...or lack of. lol
