Do you know your history? (part IV)

The Roche Original, as powered by a Henderson motorcycle engine...until it wouldn't get off the ground. Then, two guys helped him build an engine that was more powerful. Roche sold the Original to the Aeronautical Company of America (Aeronca). The engine became the Aeronca E-107 with a whopping 36hp.

And since Aeronca basically copied the Roche design... they considered the original the C-1 and the new one they built the C-2.

Now - this is important.

Notice on the DeMoiselle above that the fuselage is triangular in nature - one longeron on top of the fuselage with two below. This was designed by Alberto Santos-Dumont of Brazil. The C-2 and C-3 in particular are quite similiar and Jean Roche was quite familiar with the Demoiselle as well. Picture the Demoissell above with fuselage covering - it would look much like the C-2.
 
No doubt that Jean drew some inspiration from that one bit. The design he sold to Aeronca even had the wire spoke wheels.
