no! Things at Skywest are GREAT! It's just once you get a bit of Alaskan blood in you, you're never really satisfied with anything else! My wife and I keep going back and forth as to where we want to end up (her folks being up there with all the "toys:" airplanes, snow-mobiles, boat, etc.). Life here in Colorado Springs with Skywest couldn't be better, but we're thousands of miles from family. We've always considered Alaska our home.

It's got to be a real good deal for me to leave here.... I'm just checking on the options...

Of course, it doesn't say where in Alaska this is. Perhaps Barrow or Unalaska? Probably not that bad, but it would be good to know.

Fairbanks, huh? Why would they have a pilot position in Fairbanks when McKinley Capital Management is on C Street in Anchorage??

it does not suck its awesome. what are you going to be flying. if memory serves me right i think they have a citation that they are flying but i cant always count on memory. if its who i think it is they are based in anchorage.

Well, they called me for an interview. I didn't go, I'll tell you why below...

The company has two Westwinds, two Chieftains, and a 206 on floats. The Westwinds are used to go to the lower 48 and the Chieftains are for around Alaska, mostly to their lodge out on Lake Clark (just 10 miles down the lake from where my in-laws live!). The 206 stays out there for fishing trips. The lodge is huge- I remember flying over it while it was being built over the last few years.

My responsibilities would have been pilot plus a maintenance position (not as much actual wrenching as tracking inspections, parts ordering, paperwork, etc.). Starting pay? just a little more than I'm making right now. Dream job, right?

I just didn't get a good feeling about it. The CEO, according to my father-in-law is one of the richest men in Alaska. High rollers. I just don't think I'd fit in with that crowd (not that I really need to as pilot). I think I've been in the airline industry too long, I'm pretty well entrenched. I know how it works, the rules, and where my place is in it. The Part 91 corporate world is completely foreign to me. I just didn't want to give up my options of where I'm at for something I may not like 2-5 years down the line.... it could have been the cush job of flying a couple trips a month, out to the Lake a few times... or out to the Lake 5 times today, down to SFO tomorrow, then back to the lodge for float flying. There are no work rules and I'm at their whims. I fear that unknown!

so anyway... I'll keep plugging along here with this airline gig. I've still got something up my sleeve... we'll see....
