Do these flight instruction/rental rates seem fair?

It's been quite a while since I really flew anything GA. A buddy sent me these rates for a place he is looking to get either his sport pilot or private pilot certificate at. Does all this sound fair? Seems a little on the high side to me, but I've been out of it for a while. Also, are all those surcharges normal?
 
They're not very smart marketing-wise in my opinion. Why would you charge $202.10 for an intro flight? Is that $2.11 going to break their bank? They could advertise less than $200 but "missed it by that much".

Also, how can they charge a fuel surcharge when fuel isn't included? Yeah, there are some things on there that have me wondering...

Edit: They even charge more for an intro flight than their normal rates. Lol. Sitting waiting for the boss and scratching my head on this one.

Other than that, I have no clue.

Yep...$199 would be a lot smarter. Not the first poorly marketed flight school.
 
Those aren't wet rates?? I was paying $110 or so for wet 172s...but that was about 10 years ago

Well they say Fuel is no included... Then at the end in the very fine print they say "All aircraft are rented wet (Fuel and oil)
That makes me thinking if they know what they are doing.
 
And the G1000 renting for the same price as one with the old school six pack?? Something is a bit off

Run don't walk away from this place. $130 an hour is stupid for even a wet rate on a 172N but to add fuel on top makes it close to $170 an hour. I rented one today for $100 wet.
 
Since the planes rates do not include fuel, but the mouse print at the bottom says the planes are rented wet, and an additional 15 dollar an hour fuel surcharge added on, how much is an hour of flight time WITH FUEL and surcharges and PA taxes etc included? I think this is ala carte pricing line many budget airlines like to do and impossible to know the real cost.

I won't fly in a place like this.

Those are barely competitive wet rates for down in DC where everything tends to cost more. As dry rates WITH a surcharge those rates positively suck.

Tell your friend to find a flying club. Those rates are crap.

For a 172. $130 wet is still pushing it - maybe if it was glass.

Remember when rates were going up because fuel was 2.5x the price it is now? Notice that fuel went down and rates didn't?

I can rent a PA-28R in DC for $125 dry at one place, and I get another one just like it for $137 wet/tach through my club.
 
Yep, fuel prices went down, but rental rates did not. However, there are a lot fewer students and renters these days, and companies still want/need to have the same amount of revenue.

$130 for a DRY 172??!! You can put the emphasis on "172" or "Dry"; either way, someone is smokin' the crack pipe.
