Last month I was cited for "Improper Lane Usage". It is my first ever type of driving citation. Do I need to report this to the FAA immediately or should I wait until my next medical?
Thanks

I believe it's an "open" law where it is up to interpretation. Basically, you can get it for things like: linger in highway passing lanes, using an emergency access road or going in and out of a lane. This is often coupled with a DUI because many people who are drunk swerve and can't stay inside their own lane.Swen said:I'm not able to answer your question, but just how does one go about using the lane improperly? Haha, I didn't know it existed either! I was changing lanes and at the same time a guy was speeding up to try and cut me off...nevertheless -we hit each other...I got the ticket. Who knows? I was pissed to say the least...
Anyone else have any stories like this?
Theotokos said:Yeah, I do. The other day coming back from flying I was not really paying attention (yes, I pay attention in the air before you ask) and I saw I was approaching a red light. I knew I could not stop so I sped up to get through. A guy honks at me angrily and with good reason. A few minutes later I see a cop beside me and see he is honking his little horn. I pull over and he says, "You know why I pulled you over don't you? You sped through that light at a high rate of speed. Why?"
"Because I did not see it."
"Then why did you go faster?"
"Because I could not stop in time."
"Okay. I need to see your licsence and insurance."
He looks at them, goes back, and writes the ticket.
He comes back and says, "What you did was illegal. You could have killed or injured someone. I could have arrested you for wreckless driving. But I am just going to give you the ticket."
Oddly, he wrote on the ticket, "Vehicle was stopped for several seconds before proceeding through light at high rate of speed." The reason I ran through it though is because I did not think I could STOP in time. Oh well, that is what court is for. I admit I ran it, but not how he said.
My wreck was like that too. I throught it was a four way stop so I crossed the road and was hit. I told the cop this and he told me to "slow down". It's like I had just begun to pull out into the intersection. I was NOT speeding. Are you stupid or somthing? I didn't say that, but that is what I was thinking. It's like gee, I just told you why I pulled out like that. I guess some cops do not understand or somthing.
WOW! i'm surprised.. you got really lucky there...you should be thanking your lucky stars! not only did you not die or cause someone else's death, you got away with "just" a ticket. Running that red light was a really stupid move, i'd suggest looking in your rearview mirror and if you don't have anyone behind you or they're far enough away...slam on the brakes next time!Theotokos said:Yeah, I do. were you actually approaching a full on red light or green turned yellow? yellow lights are typically 3 to 4 seconds in length...plenty of time to make a judgement to stop..you must have really been zoning! haha
too many red light runners in this world and I dunno why most of them don't give a damn!!![]()
as far as the other accident, it could be that the cop noticed that you *might* not of looked in "all" directions before making the decision to move forward or did the other guy run the stop sign? either way, it's called "defensive" driving for a reason right?! you can't trust any driver out there!!
*sorry, just ticks me off some cuz it seems like the only thing that bothered you was getting a ticket and not so much the fact that someone could have *easily* been killed!!
Maximillian_Jenius said:Ughhhhh tell me bout it Kristie. I was just in traffic school on Saturday for 8 hrs. I got a ticket for photo radar but in Mesa not on the 101. We went over red light violations in great detail with graphic pictures. These incidents happen more often then people think and they are/can be very dangerous.

Said he was pacing me. I doubt it. I am usually very attentive to my mirrors and traffic around me. I was going downhill at the time too.
Shhhh, I wasn't going the speed limit.
Either was anyone else. Does that make it ok? No. But I am fighting it anyway.
Don't show up to court if you are in Cali.

Please don't drive on the same roads with my wife and children if you don't have the decency to pay attention to what you're doing. You're driving a lethal weapon.Theotokos said:Yeah, I do. The other day coming back from flying I was not really paying attention ...
You should never enter an intersection with a light until you know you can pass completely through the intersection before the light turns red. That means you should be watching the light long before you arrive at the intersection. If it has been green for a long time before you reach the intersection, you should be prepared for it to change, and you should be prepared to stop.Theotokos said:I knew I could not stop so I sped up to get through.
There you go. Endanger peoples' lives by not paying attention, violate a law that's in place to protect lives, and then lie to an officer of the court about it. Did your parents raise any smart kids?Theotokos said:A guy honks at me angrily and with good reason. A few minutes later I see a cop beside me and see he is honking his little horn. He's darn straight - - you could have killed my daughter. Does that thought sober you? Apparently not.Theotokos said:He comes back and says, "What you did was illegal. Then you were going too fast in the first place. If you can't control your vehicle, please turn it off and step out.Theotokos said:Oddly, he wrote on the ticket, "Vehicle was stopped for several seconds before proceeding through light at high rate of speed." No, that's not what court is for. You drive irresponsibly, you break the law, you lie to a Police Officer, you show no remorse for what you've done, and now you want to tie up our legal system for some sort of satisfaction? Give us a break, will ya? Pay the fine, and be thankful nobody got hurt. Learn how to drive.Theotokos said:Oh well, that is what court is for. I admit I ran it, but not how he said.
Yepp. Blame it on the cops. It couldn't possibly have been your own miserable failure to observe the signs in the intersection or the car headed towards you.Theotokos said:My wreck was like that too. No one is perfect. Does that mean no one can make suggestions to correct another's behavior? No admonishment allowed?Mr_Creepy said:"Let he who is without sin amongst you cast the first stone ..."
