DJET...

ATP might say, "they'll be the defacto place for Djet training," but after talking to Diamond directly, it's still in the air. Diamond said that they have not awarded anyone the Djet training contract and are suprized that ATP is saying anything close to it.
I wonder what was really going on then in the press conference that I attended at the AOPA convention last year ('06)... you know... the one where the president of Diamond and the owner of ATP unveiled the D-Jet in ATP colors... and the President of Diamond stated that ATP would be the premier training facility for the DJet while shaking the owner of ATP's hand...

Hmmmm...

;)

Edit: Found the press release from Diamond:

http://www.diamondaircraft.com/news/2006_11_09.php

ATP places D-JET fleet order and is selected by Diamond to conduct D-JET training...

According to Diamond (press release above)... ATP will have access to Diamond's Jets late of '08 in order to train the new owners of DJets.... and ATP will be getting their own jets in '09.

whichwayisup... Just out of curiosity... who are are talking to at Diamond "directly"?

Wow...incredible response Captain!

Hey Capt,
I'll get the name and post it. If I'm wrong, then I'll admit I'm wrong, no big deal to me.
I'm a former ATP'er myself but I also know its not the "end all, be all of flight training."

Oh believe me... I understand that there are plenty of flight training options out there. My post really has nothing to do with that.

You don't have to post the "name" of the person... I'm just wondering if it's a person who would really have a say over and above what was said by the Pres. of Diamond and the current press release on their website.

And... are you really just down the road from me?? I'm seeing NRH in your profile... I'm right in Arlington! :)

Bob

I'm in NRH. Went to ATP in arlington and now instruct out of Denton. I was going to work at ATP but wanted more control over my schedule due to my family./end hijack

I 'll try and confirm my sources today about the djet program.

Ok, talked to Diamond yesterday and was told that they are not going to release the information on who is going to do the training for the Djet until it gets closer to the initial delivery date. When I asked about the announcement in '06 with ATP, I was told that its under review and that there will more than likely be more than one training center. You can call Diamond and talk to them to confirm at 1-866-599-3538.

Thanks for the info Dave,

I called and spoke with Cathy W who sounds like the same person you spoke with. I just questioned whether or not I'd be able to get a Type for the DJET at ATP per the press release. She stated that was most likely the case but that there may also be other training options that aren't firmed up yet.

That said, I have no doubt that there will be more than one option for training... Just like there's Flight Safety, Simulflight, etc...

So, being that ATP does have the largest initial order of DJets and DJet SIMS. I think it's a pretty good bet that they will be the primary instruction facility. As to more than one training center... The rumblings around the ATP booth were Dallas, Phoenix, Atlanta, Jax, & Riverside. Of course... that was two years ago, and we all know how things can change in aviation.

Cathy kept asking me what my interest was in the DJET and if I was interested in a purchase... so I had to skirt the issue by telling her that I'm just a CFI and wanted to be one of the first to get a Type in it so I could instruct or do re-current signoffs. So... she signed me up to recieve the latest and greatest info via eMail on the DJET. ;)

Thats what I told her also. I'm sure ATP will train people in the Djet, ATP has a good program and they know how to get a student from point A to point B. I should edit my initial post and say that they just aren't going to be the only place to train at.

:)
