Distinguished Road?

(but I'm still not sure any of us here will ever reach "distinguished" status.)

That cat picture is funny, and I don't find cat pictures funny. My sense of humor is in question, just like my reputation.

Yeah, so I swung by "Forum support" to ask about this sheriffs star and my reputation of 10. Do we all start out at 10?

I'm guessing we all start out with 10 points...

If you go under setting you get to see what post got "reputation points" and if you get comments or not. Who ever left a comment on mine...I can see it on my end. Can you see it?

ah I see.
I left that comment. So we can see comments...that is cool.
And apparently you can't give reputation twice to the same post.

You also can't give out more than nine Reputations within a twenty-four-hour span of time. I assume that, in order to give a Reputation to another post of the same person, you need to be able to "spread" at least ten Reputations. Not too sure, but I'll have the answer in twenty-three hours (or maybe Doug can tell me, now). :)

I was going to post ideas in the "permanent infraction" thread, but Bumblebee and Flychicaga closed it.

It made me think of some things, and it ties in with the "Megans law" thread in the lav. That's right, I'm pulling three threads together into one idea. Because I'm awesome.

First, I think infractions should be publically viewable on the persons profile page. If someone wants to friend you, or if you see someone post something ridiculous in a thread and want to see their profile prior to responding (to learn about them) - then their infraction history should be publically viewable. It is like the sex-offender list in the Megan's law thread - people should know what they're dealing with. I have lots of infractions, but no infractions for ever insulting anyone or being mean - mostly just for exceeding PG-13 guidelines. If someone has infractions that are repeatedly for "insulting another member" etc, we should see this so that we can respond to a friend request, or a post in a thread by saying "You're an abusive tool with anger problems. Bite me".

The reputation button is awesome and gives people a chance to see how high a person's quality is - but shouldn't you be able to see how stupid someone is too?

Also, I am "unrated" and somehow Talia is distinguished. I am calling BS on that - she's no more distinguished than anyone else - people just vote for her because she's pretty.

I find that extremely hard to believe...

I am a little confused though...Apparently I have 27 rep points, which unless I am mistaken, is greater than the 10 that apparently we all start with, yet I'm still unrated. How will someone who has somehow managed to not notice my awesomeness instantly know my awesomeness if the thing lies?

Whoa whoa whoa...I was only "distinguished" in the first round. Then (I believe) Dough noticed my new moniker (an homage to you Wacofan...see left Sir) and decided I was no longer distinguished and now I am "trending positive." I'm not sure how you are "unrated," as I gave your post positive juju last night. Perhaps the tribunal is still deciding how to categorize your awesomeness.

Additionally...how do we tell if someone rated us? How am I supposed to accept shame or cast blame if I dont know who it's coming from? (more so, i just need to know who to love and who to hate on the interwebs.)

ILY <3

I agree though. We need to see who rates us so we know who to hate.

Another handy thing would be to be notified if someone "reports a post" of yours. If the mods know, and the post-reporter knows, then the accussed should know. My feelings about reporting posts are that these are the same people that call fouls in sand-lot basketball games - but it would be nice to know who they are.

no.

No to the outing of post-reporters? Or no to knowing who rates you and how? Or, no to seeing infractions on a persons profile page. Or just no to WacoFan in general?

I think it would help draw lines of demarcation and would amp up the rivalries and hostility - and that would be entertaining.

I TRIED TO GIVE YOU A POSITIVE AND A NEGATIVE, BUT only the negative worked for now...I owe you a positive!

and no to knowing who reports a post...but believe you me, folks that poke at others until they cross the line, and then report them have a reputation... ;)

You know what would be cool? If you rate individual post like this, I would think you could keep track of posts that are just exceedingly popular because they'd have the most reputation points. If you could single out posts like that - the really awesome ones - you could create a thread that would be "Awesome Reputation Posts" and save them for posterity. Kind of like the Best of Johnny Carson DVD's that are sold.

I award reputation points on a sliding scale, in an arbitrary and capricious manner.

Also, it is a computer. Unlike humans, it is incapable of lying. Never mind that the input is garbage, it's accurate in processing that garbage and giving you definitive results.

Oh, the fun that could be had with THAT particular functionality...I don't think I've ever mashed the report button here outside of spam. Be a big boy.

Here ya go, girls:

What would you like the ranks to be? Form a consensus, let me know. Voila! ;)

if you want to consider gut splitting, milk spitting, keyboard ruining hilarity, then you would win hands down!

Hmmmm. I wonder if I can give myself reputation points...On an unrelated note, can people see who gave themselfs...I mean others the points?
