Distance from Peddles

I have started to notice that if I fly for more then 30 min or so my ankles get really sore from being on the peddles. How far back to most of you keep your seats while flying? I guess the best measture would be the angle that your legs form at your knees. I would guess I am at a slighly more then 110*. Any other thoughts on ways of minimizing the pain? It really is only an issue when doing manuvers or pattern work (but what else does a PPL student do?)

just relax them on the floor, they don't need to be perfectly straight either. Same thing happened with me, because I tried to keep me feet perpendidcular to the floor! It hurt!

This is what I normally do. I'll adjust the seat and see how far I have to move to fully apply brakes, and go from there. Normally, that puts me at a good spot. I can rest my heels on the floor and keep my toes on the rudders, and when I hit the brakes, full brake application is not quite knee locking. Then again I am 6'1". I have more trouble adjust seat height than pedal distance.

I've never pulled out a protractor to measure any angles, but I sit with the seat all the way forward. I'm only 5'7" and all the way forward is pretty comfortable for me.

I will adjust my seat to the point where I don't feel any strain on my legs while applying full rudder and brake ( L or R). That point is usually towards the forward end of the rails (C172/152).

I've got a takeoff position, a cruise position and a landing position on the seats/rudder pedals.

The cruise is with the seat fully reclined, and the feet up on the panel!

Actually, that IS my cruise position!

Just add a cup of java that the flight attendant added too much creamer to and it'll be realistic.

BTW, you back here in the states with us Yanks now?

A mate of mine on the airbus has you beat - he reclines his seat, rests one leg accross the other, and uses his toe to push the PTT switch on the yoke - that way he does not have to sit up!!!

Yeah I have been back in the states for about 3 maybe even 4 weeks now! I have a job right by SNA, have a horse to ride (although she is lame right now), so things are going well!

Yeah, I xferred to ATL so I haven't seen SNA in months

Doug misses the west coast greatly.

I actually do miss saying "Ok skipper, just land the damned thing!...Delta Ops, Delta 123 is on the ground, comfirming gate...lemme guess TWELVE" then getting the old skool-style fountain pepsi from the vending machine underneath the terminal.

Love to live in LA, but I can't maintain my quality of life...

It is not bad here on the west! I am sure you will get a line out of LAX soon enough - that would be an easier commute then getting on the employee bus!

LAX would be the bomb-diggity, yo!

I don't know why I transferred to ATL because my attitude went rock bottom low. Even Kristie is like "Get OUT".

You just need to spend more time at MCO, just over on Airside Two. You guys are stuck with all the int'l flights on that side, too. We got the overpriced McDonald's, Sabarro's and Johnny Rivers. Or you could chill in the new food court with the huge salt water aquarium. Nothing like a $7 sandwich or Krispy Kreme.

What could you hold at LAX? Just reserve? I doubt you want to retrain though - have you thought about SLC? I guess NY would be as bad as ATL? Tough calls mate!! I think it all depends where you get the most days off (extra points if they are in a row), and get some good lay over cities with free adult channels, and coffee and dounuts if you depart before breakfast is ready!

I would be reserve in LAX on the 757/767, can't hold the LAX 7670400l, I'd be senior on the 737-300 in SLC, almost regular line holder on the SLC 737-800 and reserve on the SLC 757/767.

I've GOT to get out of ATL...

Well I am looking for a room mate - Kristie has mentioned how good you are at house duties on FCAPA.org. We could organize something!

You'd be dangerous Iain. That be at least two trips to a twelve-step program!

Does the environment at the different bases vary that much? Or is it jsut a Whole Bunch of factors; commute, aircraft, city, etc... Can you switch bases anytime that you want or do you have to stay at the base for X months before transferring again?

As long as you stay on the same aircraft, simply put, you can change bases whenever there's an opening.

If you change to a different aircraft, at Delta, you're 'seat locked' for 12 months, but can change bases more or less at will when there is an opening.

I take it the twelve-step program is a 757/767 route out of LAX, 12 different airports then home - right?

I am sure many pilot would like a crash pad on the beach back in the college lifestyle!!!
