Dispatcher Stress Level

Geez I need to get my alcohol on....this forum is booze city.

Yada yada yada, what they said, some days it sucks, some days you suck, just remember whose name is on the release you just mindlessly clicked through on that third boring day.

This job is fun. I'm not saying that with a gun to my head. This job is fun -- and the benefits of a 4 on, 3 off mean I can go have a late New Year's dinner in PHX with my sister, and be back in time to sleep in for a day.

But so far everyone else who posted first is telling me I need to drink a bunch....

OR do pills which probably has a better effect.

If you don't drink, you haven't been in aviation long enough yet....

It's mildly stressful maybe one or two days a year.

Stress is a sign of the unprepared. If you are doing your job well, you will always have something in your back pocket to handle a crisis. I learned this in Airport Operations and Dispatching is no different. Juggling phone calls, sending ACARS messages to multiple aircraft and monitoring a dozen planes in the air happens so often it becomes second nature to do all at the same time. Diversions, Tarmac Delays and airborne holding are what keeps the blood pumping to the extremities.

Stressful? Pfft. Maybe for mere mortals...
