Dispatcher Jobs & Location

Hi All,

I am making a career change to become a dispatcher. I considered becoming a FT pilot 5 years ago but the QOL was not for me. I love aviation and weather and this is the best chance to be closely involved in aviation and I am excited. I am fine with pay to start out with so not problems there.

The wife and I are both onboard with relocating (with some limitations) as living in WI, there are not too many jobs available for this line of work. My question is where are people finding dispatcher jobs now? I see there are many options and locations but trying to get a general feel where jobs are being had, generally speaking.

Also, are newly certified dispatchers finding work? I almost have my commercial rating (10hrs shy yet) and lots of management experience and a college degree in case that might help.

Any feedback is appreciated.

You shouldn't have much trouble landing a position with your qualifications. It's not unheard of, but getting on with a major right out of the box is pretty unlikely. I do know that Pinnacle/Colgan in Memphis seem to be constantly looking and accepting resumes. Also, keep an eye out on JSFirm as new positions seem to pop up once a week or so. Take a look at the thread below for a good list of companies and locations. What school are you going to?

Thanks for the info. Appreciate it.

Right now I am leaning towards Sheffield. Also considering IFOD. I read through some posts and these two seem to be the most respected. Sheffiled has been very responsible. Was originally considering AGS but not sure I want only 6 day residency.

Air Wisconsin is looking for a dispatcher - even though you dont have your license yet - see if you can talk to the dispatch manager and see what happens. Explain what you want to do and m-a-y-b-e you can get your foot in the door.

Best of Luck.

PM if you want anything specific

good to know, thanks. I may try to make a quick trip to ATW and shadow a dispatcher.

Is Airline Ground School worth the cost savings over IFOD of Shef?

I am an iFOD guy myself, but work with a handful of Sheffield graduates. Either way you look at it, obtaining your certification through a reputable school is important, especially when applying to your first gig. You will also walk in on your first day more confident and less inept and intimidated. Do yourself a favor and spend the money to ensure that you come out on the other side "ready." Plus, the schools with good reputations have good connections.

O ya, I hear there's nothing in ATW but snow and cheeseheads.:joke:

Will take a look at both and see which fits my schedule better. Thanks for the help. Keep in coming.

Do I need to study all part 135 questions and even the beech 1900 questions if I plan on part 121 or does it not matter from an ADX standpoint.

You got me on the snow and cheese heads in ATW that is for sure but heck I am already a cheese head but could do without the snow. Minus those two things ATW is actually a fairly nice place, lots of good  although I am sure I am bias.

Thanks again for the feedback!
