Dispatch Release

Another way of killing trees is having incompentent dispatchers. I flew Charlotte to Chatanooga tonight and it took 3 tries to get a release that was usable. The first time we didn't have an alternate with the KCHA Metar calling for overcast at 1800 and 2 miles vis. The TAF was even worse. Oh yeah... we had 10 pounds over the required FAA 45 min of fuel. The second release was filed for FL340 on a 200 mile flight. Hmm. That isn't going to work so we will be lower so we will burn more gas so we are short on fuel again. Man the fuel truck driver must have hated us for calling him back three times.

Tim, you fly for frontier?

In due time...

Nah, I used to do ops and weight and balance for them. I lived and breathed releases for a while, that's why I am amazed at all these long ones. Sounds like a nightmare!

Do you guys know how many copies of those releases have to be printed for one flight? I think we usually kept about 5 or 6 that I knew about. Man I need to get in the paper/printer/ink business!

At skywest stations where we print our own, most of us print two pages on one to save paper. However at the mainline stations, it's the dot-matrix, continuous feed stuff.

Bog, do you find your United releases sometimes printed out of order?

Yeah, quite often. Seems to be the worst at the Skywest-staffed stations.

Just kidding!

For about the last month or so, we've had an extra 1/3rd of the actual flight release popping up for no reason. Kind of a pain. I love the stations who use the small font ... so much less paper!

It must be nice to be able to print your own release. Waiting for the UAL rampers in ORD to saunter over with your paperwork is like watching sap ooze from a tree.

I baked cookies for my ground crew, and everything has been exceptionally smooth since then. Its worth a try...

Our Release is one page, our Manifest is one page but our weather packet is usually about 12. And this is to fly a 19 seat, unpressurized, fixed gear Twotter a couple hundred miles to the east and then get the same packet to turn around and fly it back.

Although all that weather hleps out when you're out at Monument or Bryce in the middle of nowhere ...

Baking cookies, eh? Don't think I could bring enough to have any effect upon ORD. We pushed 45 minutes late this morning for no real reason. Weather was great, only 28 pax, we were there. They just don't have enough people and equipment to do the job.
