Dispatch Oral/Practical Exam questions!

Hahaha I'm getting a bit anxious reading all of you guys. I'm thinking of attending Sheffield in October--next month. I'm studying the ADX practice sheets I printed out from their website. Any other materials I should cover before taking the test? Also, those of you who had taken the 5 hour oral exam, how intense could that be? 5 hours is a lot to cover...

There is a good book out now by ASA called Aircraft Dispatcher Oral Exam Guide. But honestly, from my oral, I was hammered on regulations, aircraft systems and tons of scenario based questions the most. And then a little bit of everything else. So I would know the regs like the back of your hand! :)

Did you pass on your first try? :)

I was the first student to have the oral from our class and it started early in the morning. so it started off kinda slow, which ate up alot of time. Plus my examiner was training another examiner during my oral so that also took up alot of time since both examiners were asking me different questions. My advice is DON'T worry about the length of time. I didnt even take a clock with me because i didnt wanna keep track of the time. Just go in there focused on the oral and you'll be fine. 3hrs, 5hrs, even 8hrs wont matter, because the time will go by FAST. My oral started at 745am and i walked out at 1230.. Good luck..

Has anyone attended Sheffield? I start their 5wk class with the workshops on Aug 20th.

A really great school. Eric and his staff will grill you hard, but the reward is knowing all you need long after you graduate. I went there back in Nov '09. Keep us posted on your progress. Good luck!

Just passes my oral/practical today!!!! I have a good tip. Try to schedule your oral around lunch time. I was out in just over an hour..lol. I want to believe I just knew my stuff but I suspect he was realizing he isnt paid by the hour:) Anyway its good to be part of the dispatch family finally. Now the fun part...finding a job:)

Good luck, Jose! Make it happen!
Thanks, I had originally considered going to dispatcher school in 2010 right after I got my BS, but then I got accepted to grad school and I figured I might as well get the MS while I'm still in the college groove.

Keep us all posted on how things go at IFOD. IFOD was one of my first choices, but then I found out about Sheffield. They are a bit closer to where I live. I'll be heading down there eventually.

Enjoy IFOD Jose...I really did! Its a lot of hours, but it can be fun! Try to get to the BBQ place they talk about..its awesome:)
