Different Flying Questions: ILS/VOR/DME

Duhh....Of course, everyone knows you can do a CAT III on every ILS even if it says it is meant for CAT I (1st class is better then 2nd and 3rd isn't it?), plus a Cessna 172 can do everything a bigger plane can do.

Actually, this was a couple years ago before I started any pilot training and was over in the small state (RI). Somehow my mom took care of a patient who had some sort of a connection with a turboprop aircraft and ended up getting an aerial tour, the landing was freakin awesome (I wish I had a camera). For now though, I can just do CAT I etc approaches with my instructor (my airport dons't have the fancy smancy landing systems); although that's pretty cool as it is. :)

I understand what ILS word for word mean - Instrument Landing System but how do you do any ILS approach? What's VOR - i know its a radio signal or something and same goes for DME - What does all this stuff mean and how do you use it in flying? Can you shoot a VOR approach or a DME approach?

What's the difference of a visual apprach vs. a ILS approach. Do you literally fly the plane by visual all the way down or what?

One of my students busted his CFI SE add on (and this was in the ATP environment where that ride is pretty much a gimme) because he did his softfield landing and stepped on the brakes before the nose was on the ground. The DE said it wasn't soft at all after that.
