Didn't get the damn job!

Well, after three weeks of phone calls and an interview that went well (IMO) I finally called back and they don't need me. The manager told me that maybe in the late Summer, but I know after he hung up, he forgot who Paul was. This sucks, but I'll look for the good in it. The pay sucks there, so I'm thinking apply at a Supermarket (like right now) get better pay, save up for flight training and maybe work at the FBO next Summer, if he needs me. I just wish I could get the experience...

Paul:

I'm in sales. You got to get through your no's first. This is a fact.

On the other hand, I firmly believe when one door doesn't open, GOD has one open waiting for you. Perservere my friend.

More money will help with your flight training a lot more then experience refueling Cessnas and Pipers.

Werd, I don't see how washing planes and what not helps you that much...you can meet just as many people hanging around the airport, and you can make a lot better money other places.

Sorry to hear it Paul. It doesn't always work out the way we plan it, huh.

Sure doesn't. How are you doing right now? didn't hear back from you.

The work isn't that fun or great and the pay sucks, but I just like to be at an airport, even if its still stuck in the late 60s, its a pretty cool place.

God's hiring pilots? Into what equipment? What are the mins? :D

Next time, show up for 3 weeks instead of calling. Most jobs don't like phone calls. I applaud your persitance. If you are hooked on working there, show up in august(in person) every week. If you are kind to everyone, everytime you are there, I believe you will get the job(as soon as he has a need). I agree with everyone else, and think you should look into a higher paying position. Feel free to ask any questions, and good luck.

Sorry about that. I am at the mercy of the libraries hours of operation during the week. Then I don't think too much about the computer when I get home on my weekends. I'll hit you up.

That sucks Paul, but hang in there. Better things will come around, trust me. I got fired from my FBO job...and what was waiting around the corner? A much better paying job, and people who would work with me on hours since I was in school. That being said, I would have much rather been working at the FBO.

You'd be surprised at what you can learn doing that job...at least I know I did. Paul, do you have any other airports nearby?

Show up tomorrow and apply again. And the next day. And the next day. And the next day. And the next day. And the next day. And the next day. And the next day. And the next day. And the next day. Either he will hire you, or seeing you every day will push him over the edge and you can work with the new manager.

Rejections are an unpleasant, but normal part of professional life. Out of college I got three or four "Thanks but no thanks" letters. My first regional airline interview went the same way. Not much fun. Just keep plugging away dude. Something always works out if you are persistent.

Yeah, there is a better paying job that I'm not sure I'll get though, I hope I will, I'm applying today. I would still like to work there though, its not the pay that I care about, its being around airplanes, the airport, pilots, and just the atmosphere. Sure I could meet people just by hanging around, but I don't have time to be an airport bum and hanger fly four three hours on a Sunday when I could have a job.

The closets airports around me are N99 (30+ minutes, probably wont hire till 16) and ILG, Wilmington (30+mins away, wont hire till 16 (very large corporate airport) dont have a car and my parents wont drive me that far). I know I could learn alot with a lineguy job, stupid knowledge about different aircraft, specs, and ninchs of planes. It would have looked good on a resume too....

Thanks alot for the advice, and everyones for that matter. I had about three phone calls before an interview, then I finally led up to getting an interview. It went really well, he said he wanted me to work for him. Then he checked the avaliblity of when I could work and found out he didnt need me. I just wished he would have done that the first time. I even made sure he saw me at the fields airshow and we talked for about five-ten minutes (if that isnt sucking up). Im definitley going there in August before school starts so maybe I could work on Sundays.

Thanks alot for all your guys help and advice, this is why Im glad to be on here.
