DGCA halting all Expat FATA's on May 31st

So what does this mean? If you are planning on flying in India, and have not been issued your FATA by 05/31, don't be planning on flying in India.

Some here say its just a political chip some are using to stay in office and will go right back to the way it was by mid summer due to the DGCA having a fit about not recieving their brides, or due to a couple smoking holes because of an all indian crew.

I'm glad my fata is still good until Oct. Hopefully by then, they'll switch back. Just FYI.

Do you think there is any truth to this? I have heard these rumors flying around before now....

I think if they did stop expats then within a week or two their whole industry would collapse at the moment they do not have the skills (in the numbers required) to have a safe and effective air transportation industry.

I don't think it would collapse within a week or two. They're just stopping new hiring of expats, not removing all the current expats with valid paperwork.

Now, several months (assuming attrition rates)? Maybe.

Good point kellwolf.. somehow I still don't think it will happen... I should have more news on this by tomorrow as a contact of mine has been for meeting with the DGAC about speeding up the process (Major recruitment agency)

See if they have any news about this!

At face value... forget flying there.. as the whole process from applying and filling in paper work takes a good few months.

Also because of talk in some other threads on here....

You will need: -

ATPL 3000 / 4000 hours TT

Type rating (full not SIC no limitations at all IE. circling approaches)

100 PIC on type MINIMUM

Basically it means if you are not currently in the process of flying in India, don't count on it. I don't think the rule will stand for very long though.

I'm not sure what is going on.. I think it might just be rumor.

I got my paperwork from the DGAC 2 weeks ago and today I got my visa.. So I guess they cant be stopping the ex pats just yet...

Well considering the times required for over there, I guess flying in India is out of the question even disregarding the mess mentioned in this thread.

How long did it take to get your visa? Is it an employment or business? Its not May 31st, the plan is stopping AFTER May 31st. Its no rumor thats for sure but everyone here doesn't think it will last. Also nothing a few thousand rupees can't fix as well lol.

As for total time, on the corporate side, really 2000ish hours with 250-500 PIC on type will get you a decent job if you can find it.

I got the visa in 4 days

Which embassey did you go through? I went through Houston and it took 2 months but then again they had the hurricane hit them during that time. Last pilot to come over took 6 months to get a visa and it ended up being a business visa. I'm sure airline side it's easier cause they're much bigger companies.

I went to one in the UK.. are you talking it took 6 months from going to the embassy or 6 months from filling in the paper work for the job?
