DFW Metroplex

Hi,

This is my first thread on JetCareers. My fellow pilot friend suggested I join, and so far it seems like a great place to find first-hand experience and wisdom about all-things-aviator.

I've been trying to find work in the DFW Metroplex. Lots of flying right now, does not appear to be a lot of hiring. I'm a CFI-I with 600TT, still a rookie in my own eyes. After pounding the pavement, I've learned that KDTO (Denton) and KADS (Addison) have the most promising flight schools and flight operations available for someone like me looking to fly a lot. The only present problem is no Instructor opennings. My first inclination is to join a flight club and finance flying via a 2nd job.

Does anyone suggest specific flight clubs or schools - published or unpublished? I know there is a brand-new flight club at KDTO, and flight clubs at KADS and KTKI. Any others?

Thanks for the information, and Happy New Year!

You might try Northwest Regional Airport.

I took some lessons there.. like a million years ago.

It's a lesser known airport, but it seems like they had some stuff going on.

There are two or three clubs at KTKI that I know of, but more importantly, there are excellent networking opportunities there. LOTS of corporate aviation rolls through there. It's actually where I prefer to go in when I go to Dallas - ADS is often closer to my ground destination, but since they vector you way east anyway coming in from the south (most of the time) it takes the same amount of time to fly to TKI in a GA plane.

There is an FBO at Rockwall - might have some luck there.

There are a couple of FBOs at HQZ (Mesquite) where you might find instructing work. Also check into Midway, (JWY, I think) Lancaster and Redbird. There's a DPE out of Midway - Carol Walker - and she's awesome. Does TW instruction in her Citabria there.

US Flight Academy :D out of KDTO.........another one of my friends just quit today..... so there's your spot

Speaking of international...If you are willing to commute a little North Texas Regional In Sherman just opened a flight school. Not sure if they are hiring but I hear it is a pretty big operation. Might be worth checking into.

At SWI? That's a nice little field. Cheap gas there, too.

Fort Worth Mecham International may have some openings for Flight Instructors, I work for American Flyers and they are moving to ADS, but I know there is another flight school around there. I think it is called Sandpiper Aviation, maybe they have some openings.

Me too! I flew frequently up there from 1994-1999.

x3! Got my PPL up there a few years ago. 52F is a great place to learn (short runway with trees and a great local aviation community). Alliance nearby for tower/instrument work. Blue Hangar for lunch!

To the OP: US Flight Academy at KDTO has seemed to be busy with international students; I was told they only hired full-time instructors because of the student load, but I'm not sure if they're currently hiring.

Not sure what it's like now, but Arlington and Grand Prairie were always hopping with students when I was instructing down that way.

HQZ has one school there. Another option is Barr Air Patrol at HQZ. You start as an "observer" on pipeline patrols. But you can build time and good experience and pays better that flight instructing. lol. I was the Chief Pilot there until two years ago and "rescued" several CFIs.

Also look into Redbird, now Dallas Executive. It is further out but you might look into Grayson County. Don't know who is instructing up there since Voyager closed but it used to be a decent place to instruct and where I started years ago.

You worked for Barr? A couple of their airplanes base at our FBO down here in CXO.
