Destination-ATP Phoenix

Actually, one of my fraternity brothers and really good friends started out at ATP-PHX. Now he's a Mesa CRJ captain and still very happy and extremely positive about his experience with ATP.

Don't jinx me, Doug. I still have two weeks and 3 flying days as an FO remaining before I start the humbling experience.

ATP is a great choice and you'll love it. I interviewed in PHX on 12/8/98 and was hired by Mesa on 12/20/99.

Remember to ENJOY the training process; this is the fun part of aviation. Bring a camera, too. You'll enjoy looking back in a few years. And, as soon as Doug tells me how to do it, I'll throw in a few of my pics from the ATP days.

I'm already enjoying the last days of my present job, looking forward towards the training process.

It's probably going to feel like college--rooming with a bunch of guys in dorm-style, except without alot of the extracurricular activities.

By the way, can anyone suggest a good digital camera? Before I go-definitely want to pick one up. Like you said, I'll enjoy looking back on those pictures in the future, that's probably when I'll appreciate them more.

As far as posting pictures, I could use a little help in that category too!

A good one? Canon Digital Rebel and a long lens can be had for around $1500. If you want to go cheaper and just get a point and shoot kind thing that is a bit easier to work with. You will not beat the Olympus C770 which is just now coming out and is priced around $500. They also have cheaper versions of it called the 760, 750, and 740 which would all get the job done im sure! The key is zoom and they all have 10x optical.

Good luck!

Can you get a decent digital camera for under $200, my old camera got sand in it, and well... doesn't work now.

I don't need anything fancy or all kinds of special features or anything like that, cause I probally couldn't figure it all out anyway.

All I need is a point and click with a zoom and a flash, that will give me a decent picture.

I am sure you can, but I have never really looked in that market before. I think you can get a 3MP/3-4X optical zoom for around $200-$300. Your best bet is to visit best buy or circuit city and talk to someone there. I think Nikon makes a good one in that range called the 2100? Dont quote me on that though.

Here is the best tip, if any camera sales person starts talking about "Digital Zoom" in any manner other than saying it is worthless, then you know he either is trying to rip you off, or knows nothing about digital cameras.

Good luck!

Picked up a 4 mega-pixel, 4X optical zoom Minolta Dimage (model S-414, I think) the other day for $199. Included AA batteries plus a 16Mb compact flash card (I replaced it with a 128Mb for less than $40), and a set of rechargable AA's and a charger.

The camera's a little clunkier size-wise than I wanted, but the specs and price were right. This is my first digital privately owned, so we'll see how I like it as time goes on.

Hey Timbuff, I checked out the C770 and it looks like the way I'm going to go. They only give you that lousy 16mb card, but other than that, it has all the features I need. I found it on www.pricegrabber.com for $468, and they give you pretty much everything you need, including the PC cable. Thanks for your help.

Nice, I think that is the best digital camera on the market for under $1000 right now. It is great plus it has those great video capabilities. As far as that mini card that it comes with, yeah that is basically useless. My advice, get one good 256 MB card and one or two 128MB cards and you will be set. Have fun with it and realize that photoshop goes a long way when you are trying to print!

Oh yeah, dont get discouraged by your first pictures as they will most likely not turn out till you get some good practice with the camera.

Have fun!!!
