It used to be easy to fam ride before 9/11 and then it was eliminated. Now it's back but very strict rules on when you can do it, and they make it a total pain in the ass to do. But if any of are my pilot for a flight feel free to invite me into the cockpit!

87 FAM's before 9/11......0 after. Too much of a hassle. Ah the good old days.

I would be willing to go through hassle just once if they didn't have the clean shaven requirement. Now that I shave my head, if I shave my beard off too I have way too close a resemblance to a penis, and I just can't go through that.

Lol. Depending on the carrier you probably could get away with a well groomed stash or goatee. Other do it October and grow it back during Movember. The masks won't seal around a duck dynasty type beard.

I think they need to bring them back. I also think new hire pilots should be given a day in tracon during initial training and day in dispatch and mx control as well.

I have have toured all of them and was a mechanics helper a few time too. The experience was great and gives you insight is why some things happen the way they are do.

In college I got to "plug in" with a controller for a shift at each station from clearance through dep control. It was worth the day.

The women love it so I don't see the problem. Who cares what guys think. My wife loves it and hasn't known any different. We will be celebrating 15 years this July.

I shaved my beard on January 1st last year. My wife said if I ever do that again the wedding is off lol

I think it's funny, I posted something in the Meet and Greet about taking a tour of N90 (NY Approach) and it got decent responses of interests in the thread but then once I coordinated with the union to try and streamline it no one has taken me up on it.

Hard to find the time to make it out there with 11 days off in a month on reserve. Maybe when I get some more time off with a line this spring I'll make it happen, but most people just wanna get the hell out of dodge when they finish a trip in EWR

Hear from anyone that's JFK/LGA based?

I don't blame anyone for just wanting to get away from EWR lol. and nope, not a peep from anyone from anywhere.

Bummer. I have to spam the weather rooms with the flyers too, I've only done our crew room. keep forgetting every time I have a sit

Get a fam ride in the dash before we get rid of them, we can play "how fast can we go down final" with the autopilot, flight guidance and automatic pressurization controller inop
aka, a normal Wednesday at baby dash airways

Tell me when and where to show up for a fam ride and I'll be there! And btw you guys coming into EWR now in jets is seriously messing with us. The first time was like "what's a UCA doing coming from there?" and now it's "oh crap, he's not going to slow inside the marker cause he's not a dash anymore, this might get tight"

Fortunately for you lot, a good number of the erj guys came from the Dash and still remember how to fly airplanes
But yea, not sure they'll be able to hold 220kts 'best forward speed' to the turnpike bridge on the stadium visual like bby dsh can

we just got a base chief pilot in ewr, I'll ask about what's involved in a fam ride on our end

Come out to JFK and we can do some CATIII autolands...Oh wait never mind...JFK is taking the only CAT III runway out of service for awhile. That should make things fun in bad weather....

Then again you can see the fun of diverting in the NYC area...
