Derg is famous!

Thanks, bro.

People get frustrated sometimes and I think he overlooked the part where I was being self-depracating and admitting that I had "Uptown Problems" and insinuated that I needed to stop being a wuss about it and grasp the opportunity before me.

My difference in philosophy is that yes, I have a great career and I make a very respectable living — but I'm trying to get all of you here with me or help to reach your goals. I wasn't the type, as a regional pilot, that would bitch about what other guys had, I wanted to get a name, shake a hand and try to see if I could get forward.

I gave @scooter2525 a $.10 tour of SouthernJets WHQ today and made sure I traipsed enough areas where I knew people so I could say, "Hey! This is my friend Scooter! he works for XXXX, was on a layover and is really trying to get on with us". I know he'll do the same for the next guy. And it's the right thing to do for your company — find good people.

If I can get enough of you guys doing that, we're going to improve the profession. But if we just sit around bitching on the internet about what someone else has that you don't, it doesn't get you (the royal 'you' of course) anywhere.
It was good meeting up today! I think what the OP was missing is that you do what you say your going to. Paying it forward, which has rubbed off on me. I've been way more proactive in helping others now because of being here. My current gig was because someone else payed it forward. My previous gig was because someone payed it forward. It's too bad that part was lost on that post of what this website is about.

It's too late for tacos now.

I just feel bad for these folks on the internet. Seeing these people get upset about stuff like this with a complete misunderstanding yanks my faith in humanity right out of my body.

... LOL WUT NVM

I will be on top of them on a seniority list someday, somewhere. :)

It bothers me that these are other aviation professionals who are acting like that. Some straight up middle school crap right there.

That other website is ridiculous.

Totally down with paying it forward and helping others who are in this industry thanks to this website and these people on jetcareers specifically.

Found out how small the aviation world is just the other day as well. Crazy.

Yeah. It's unfortunate thinking we work right next to these people every now and then. I always have to remind myself, the internet is not real life and isn't necessarily the best representation of what is really going on.

These Negative Nancy's can be pretty loud sometimes.

What's great is I know a couple of the loud mouths on that forum (of course they don't realize other people know who they are). I'm embarrassed to say it's at my company.

Bingo. Sometimes all it takes to get your rear in gear is to meet someone who is doing it right. @SurferLucas was a big help in getting me on board at QX... and from that example I've therefore tried my best to help out whoever I can, whether it's a personal recommendation for those I'm very familiar with, or just taking the time to answer questions for those I don't know. A person who has more than a couple of questions for me usually just gets a message with a phone number in it, so I can kill all of their questions in one go.

If I can't help people out from my current position, how can I expect others to help me from theirs?

Edit: That other site is weird sometimes. Most of the time. Still, I do my best to spread a little comedy as well as some actual information.

@Derg bought me a beer on his last cruise through juneau in spite of me being a lowly pa32 ca and a member of the Alaska mafia (admittedly, this was before the delta divide). What has this mag puller jack wagon ever done for me? Zilch I tell you!

Dear Derg,

I wonder if there is a direct correlation between road rage and internet rage. Is it the anonymity? People can be perfectly normal until Mr. Hyde appears the instant they get behind a wheel or start flinging mud in an internet flame war.

Thanks, bro.

You got that right. The negativity on the regional side is self feeding. You've got a forum area focused on where guys have been stagnated and stuck for a while at lower wages and poor working conditions. So the negative emotions are focused to a head.

I got excoriated by a couple guys by illustrating that there are 3 times as many national and higher tier jobs in the states compared to regional jobs. When showed the proving data it was "oh.... well, then."
You handled that in a very classy manner compared to the angry emotional level that OP was going for. Come over to the Latest and Greatest sometime. That needs some Derg. :)
