Delta's Hiring Freeze and Q4 Loss

I remember not to long ago when DL was flying -88s between CVG and LEX. Fastest trip I've ever had in a mad dog!:D

The -88s have better seat-mile costs by far than any RJ. It's not even close.

Very true, now compared to the 737-700/800/900 they are gas guzzlers. Thats why I think Continental has a pretty fuel efficient fleet. Only point of the RJ is to increase frequency. Thats what the business travelers want. Since the CASM goes way up airlines need to raise tickets prices way up. Business traveller doesn't want to pay that extra cost. He'll run to SWA, Jetblue or Air Tran. So they give the business traveller what they want with no price increase and lose money.

-88s and -90's are gas guzzlers?

A couple questions:

1. Based upon what performance data?
2. More gas burned to fly an 88/90 compared to a CRJ-200/700/900 does not mean it's a "gas guzzler' considering that the CASM is far lower and you can actually carry freight, which what is done very often. The 777 burns more gas than a Cessna, obviously, but look at it in terms of CASM.

Don't believe the hype, bro.

Apparently, this morning they've announced the parking of 35 RJ's without backfill. Anyone know where these are coming from?

Assuming ChickenTaco's EMB-135s have already been accounted for, I think we might have a winner:

Taken from the Comair employee website:

"Due to the ever-changing landscape of our flight schedule, pilot vacancy bid 2007-05 has been cancelled. Delta is currently making decisions regarding the 2008 schedule that may have an impact on our 2008 staffing requirement.

I realize this is written as such that it could go either way, but seriously, who are they kidding?

You give them even more leeway that I would. As far as I'm concerned, if it has jet engines hanging on it, then mainline pilots should be flying it, whether it's 35 seats or 999 seats.

You know theres a problem when the guy who flies that 70 seat jet couldnt agree more with the statement above.

If that's the case why is ASA (read: Delta) phasing out all of "the moneymakers" by Dec 2008?

The "money-makers" are old and have from what I heard very expensive maintenance checks coming up. I think that when they completely take the plane apart and put it back together. Anyways, Delta doesn't want to pay for it. Also, the dispatch reliability is not good because the spare parts budget was reduced so instead of having a part in stock when one breaks we have to wait 2 days for it to be shipped from France. Lastly, Delta want 76 seat jets instead. I guess they were serious when they put up the "FLY DELTA JETS" sign here at the airport:)

That's, uhh, kinda back from when the "Jet Base" was actually where they parked the jets, separate and apart from where the props were parked.

LOL...unsweet for me. I'm already sweet enough. :D:p

Is it blasphemous in the South to order unsweet?

In my opinion, yes. But I like my tea "ghetto style," as in someone tripped with a bag of sugar while making it. Of course, I'm the Southern heathen that hates grits, too.....

And by far one of the best Delta planes I've seen is the chrome DC-3 that I saw in MCO back in 04. Wonder if they have prop recurrent for that....
