Delta

The GM that handles hiring said we are looking for 25 this year.
Current class is a licensing class for internals, which started late last month, and will be followed by the normal initial training. There are 15 in this class.
The second class should start in the summer.

A few months ago it was said there might be changes in the external testing/interview process. Any word on that front?

Was just going to create a post wondering about a possible Delta posting. Any word on the changes to the interview process and changes to the math/psych test

I've heard from multiple sources that it's kind of irrelevant since most (if not all) hiring will go internal for the foreseeable future. As with anything that's obviously subject to change but rumor has it Delta has hired their last external few for a while. Anyone in Atlanta feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or if more recent rumors have surfaced.

There will continue to be a mix from what I've heard. However there is a corporate wide push for advancement opportunities to come mostly from within.

The current class is all internal, the next class (summer) will be mixed.
Internals historically have several years with Delta, and many have supervisory experience. For the internals, prior 121 disp exp is not req'd. I don't think that's the best idea...but that's how they're doing it for now.

Management has not reported any changes to the 3 tests yet, but they did bring in some people to evaluate the testing process.

A big wig mentioned in recurrent...

1 new-hire class of 15 this spring/early summer. All internal.
Good possibility for another late summer/early autumn. Estimated class of 12.

When I asked if any externals possible, he said a few may be selected for the latter class mentioned. They'll continue to push internal hiring through the Delta Academy for students who do well and are assessed as strong candidates. And they're lining up.

It was mentioned that subsidiary or partner regionals might be a first-stop to consider external hiring. They'll be vetted for acumen and personal traits, so hopefully the guy sitting next to you that clips his toenails over the wastebasket during IROPS won't get in ahead of you.

Don't let that dissuade anyone outside of those boxes from applying, though. If business trends continue upward, they expect up to 100 hires roughly within the next 4-5 years due to expansion and retirement and will be expanding desk capacity. But my guess is you can expect most of those to be filled with internals.

How does the Delta Academy work?

It's a dispatch certification school. Not sure when they'll be "open to the public," but right now they seem to be focused on internal employees wanting to get their license.

It's not open to the public. Internal candidates only can apply to that program.

Hey guys I am new here, so forgive me if this is a dumb question. I am a few weeks away from my practical and I am looking at one of the regional airlines close to where I am at. However, my goal is to make it as a DX at Delta one day. Reading through this thread, it sounds like that may be increasingly more difficult if I am not already an employee for Delta. I am wondering if it is a bad move to try and get on at a regional airline such as express jet or one of the others to earn several years of experience and try to move into Delta one day? Some people above have said they mainly hire internally. My fear is that I will get stuck at a regional, and while the job may be fun and interesting, I won't make the kind of money I was hoping to make. Do any of the other major airlines hire more of a mix or do they all prefer internal hires as well? Any suggestions of things I can do to increase my chances of getting into Delta after gaining some DX experience at a regional? I am sure it will take a good 5-7 years, but I will do what it takes. Thanks for any info or advice!

A number of people have a regional DX job and also work as a gate agent or ramper part time with a different airline, so there's that.
