Delta Update

Every once in a while the red mist receeds for a second and I have a moment of quasi-Anet nerd nostalgia. When it happens, it's inevitably for Delta. Back when dinosaurs ruled the earth and I was young, if you flew out of SDF, you almost certainly flew on a Delta DC-9 or maybe an MD-80 to ATL and thence on to wherever you were going. First airplane ride, first international trip, both on a widget. Hell, to a 10 year old even the U-boat uniforms looked awesome. I've almost certainly got some plastic Delta wings in a storage shed somewhere. Now, don't get me wrong: I'm definitely the flintiest-eyed cynic you're likely to meet, but there's a tiny little part of the lump of coal where my heart should be that warms just slightly above Absolute Zero when I see a widget...
I know that feeling. I went everywhere as a wee lad in one of these:

I was lucky enough to fly the L-1011-500 3 times before it was retired...ATL-HNL-ATL, both non-stops and ATL-DEN.

I'll have to find the pictures I took the day that DL retired the "Tri-tanic"...it was beautiful to watch her land, and taxi in for the last time. I still have my framed poster and signed card by the Capt, FO and FE.

I freaking love that airplane!

That was on my 17th birthday. I remember the article mentioned the Captain had flown nothing but the L-1011 since he was a new hire.

Were you there in ATL that day? I had just graduated HS and it was shortly before I went down to JU.

This poster got framed and has been in my dorm/apartments ever since:

No I wasn't there or anything. I just was way into the looking into flying at the time and remember it flying the last flight on my birthday. I wanted to fly that thing! Or at least ride on it.

My dad was a right and left Seater on the 1011. I've actually got about 6hrs of delta 1011 sim time back in the day while he was instructing on it. It was a magnificent machine. I don't think anything will be built so well again. I mean, how pimp is it to be able to get in your seat from either side of it? That cockpit was huge.

I always find our more stuff about what's going on at Southernjets; as far as what's going on with the fleet, from the Flight Ops weekly updates than I do any of our stuff...and my department is involved with all aircraft Mods!

'One of the local DPE's is a fairly senior DTW 747 CA and he is sitting reserve, on purpose. Giving check rides and collecting reserve guarantee.

OK people take it how you will! A friend of mine that's at the very top few % of the DAL list told me today that the current plan for DAL is to begin hiring in Jan at a rate of 50/month until further notice. Now he said this is not official yet but I figure since he hangs around HQ all the time while bidding Intl reserve he probably does hear what is in the works before its official. So lets keep our fingers crossed, we should know for sure in a few months when they start interviewing.

That is the plan, been put out by many different Delta resources. Some in black and white too ;)
