A lot of those flights from PHL are seasonal (correct me if I am wrong BobDDuck) and they are from PHL which has little O&D traffic to those places (less premium traffic).
Both of you guys should bid DTW.

The lack of Flying over the Atlantic will be addressed via the merger. They'll be on par with everyone else when that is complete. The larger concern is lack of Asian flying, #3. Additionally, the flying that AA already has to Asia is far less successful then competitors. I don't see any of the bases that stick out as ripe, for closure. MEM and CVG were pretty obvious in the DL/NW merger. Maybe PHX? CLT is a very large mainline hub for Usair and Mia and phl really can't replace most of the flying it does. Lots of connections from one small town to other small towns in the south. My guesses only.I think it is important to note these three VERY significant challenges to the 'new' American going forward...
.
1) They owe the Israeli government some were between 10-20 million. Will they pay? If they don't, they won't be allowed to fly there and lose out on an extremely lucrative route.
2) They really don't have that many destinations to Europe.
3) Last but certainly not least as this is their biggest disadvantage compared with Delta/United, no Pacific network.
I'll go anet here....AA goes to less cities but has more via frequency I believe.
Origin/Destination traffic killed MEM. The future holds a similar fate for CLE and CVG for the same reason.

Unfortunately (I live in MEM) this seems to be correct. IP/FDX/AutoZone can't keep a major hub in MEM. Most of the folks I know in the area drive to BNA or LIT for SWA as the price to fly out of MEM is completely nuts. Last I heard one of the highest in the country. Pretty sad when its one of the lowest cost of living places and rather centrally located between other major hubs (ATL/DFW/ORD).
Just moved here, and I paid almost 75 dollars more to fly out of here, than I did when I flew out of of GFK (only has regional service).
Not all that uncommon to pay less flying through a hub than flying directly out of one. Don't shoot the messenger I just point it where they tell me.
