Delta plane gets stuck in dirt in Asheville, canceling flights

I love how quickly this turned into an Allegiant roast.

total sarcasm btw

“Anyone ever done a two engined missed approach?”
Yeah, get the three FAs out back to push and have the FO toss carts off to drop weight. Tricky, but you can do it with positive thinking.

Also retract the flaps early and it's only because of my merit based upgrade and sticktoitness that any of this is possible.

You fly a 747 if I remember correctly, if the landing enviroment is compromised and you're on final with two engines out what are you supposed to do? Honest question.

Paraphrasing what I remember from the QRH:

“Upon selecting gear down, go around NOT RECOMMENDED”

As far as if you HAVE to. Reduce power in outboard engine as required for directional control and hope you’re light enough to clear what you need to clear.

It can be done, but unless I was pretty close to empty I’d pull a delta and sidestep over to taxiway Mike before I’d attempt it.

Interesting, appreciate your response. I suppose that scenario would be so rare that there isn't a good answer. I wonder if it's ever happened?

Tomorrow when I’m near the work iPad again I’ll see if there is any more guidance other than “I wouldn’t if I were you.”

I'd be curious about 2 inop on one wing or both inboard inop. If there's guidance in the QRH please share it if you can. I have absolutely nothing to do with 747s, I just have a curious mind.

Everyone likes to bang on Delta for landing on Mike. How come no one mentions CAL 1883 in Newark?
I know it only happened 11years ago,

Is it because they don't exist anymore?:stir:

Playing the devil's advocate here.

The CAL 757 on Zulu was off the 22L circle to 29, at night, captain new to the airplane, no approach lights, no ILS, probably no RNP at the time, and EWR does not have blue taxiway lights.

The DL 767 flew all the way from Rio with one pilot incapacitated almost the entire flight, pressed on as Miami, FLL, MCO, JAX etc. passed beneath, and I believe the PIC even stated afterwards that he realized around 50'AGL that it was not the runway, and landed anyway.

I'm not saying the intentions of the second one weren't good, but I think they were distinctly different events.
