There are 400 DAL-N guys that live in the ATL area....95+% of which are senior to me. Needless to say, I'm considering my options, haha.

Lets wait and see what the facts are. He was smiling in his arrest photo. I would have thought of it as a joke too.

There appears to be a lot more to this story that what was reported.
 
Whether or not the story is blown out of proportion, this is press that I wouldn't be wanting! I just saw a clip about it on Extra or Inside Edition or something.

Then you don't want to look at the wings of any large aircraft in turb. In the old DC-8-60 series, the fuselage would flex in flight. And the pod engines on the DC-8 and 707 looked like they were about to break loose. Lots of flex.

The wings are supposed to do that in turbulence.

If you hit that hard on landing, you're going to be putting an entry in the logbook, though. See the difference?
 
I didn't read the article but I doubt he was arrested for eluding anybody without a badge. Did she have a badge? I'm not sticking up for him, though. Sounds like he handled it completely wrong got arrested for breaking the law after his original infraction. But like others said, no badge- no thank you. Only a law enforcement officer or military under arms can hold me. Send me a bill and I'll look at it.

Just for clarification's sake, what about TSA? They have a badge, but they're neither LEOs or military under arms...

I'm guessing the code enforcement officer from the article has a badge, but no arrest privileges...

Badge or not, exactly what power do code enforcement officers have?

If it were a police officer, I would ask if I were being questioned or under arrest. If not, I would ask if I were free to go.

I honestly wouldn't know what to do either. I wouldn't think one would be legally compelled to answer any of their questions.

I wouldn't think that they can detain you either.

Another question is why they would park around his airplane so as to keep him from moving. If you aren't under arrest/being detained, the police generally can not do this to your vehicle.

He was my first instructor. I assure you for those of us that knew him before he did the whole dc3 thing, we are not surprised. I hope they throw the book at him. I will be shocked if he keeps his pilots license and job. Delta will not put up with their pilots acting like idiots. Well see what happens.

I'm kinda under the impression that if you get suspended, then the outcome is probably predetermined at that point. Would that be a reasonable assumption for the legacy carrier environment ?

I could tell from his response to the A380 landing that he was some sort of a character.

I tell ya what, these mainline pilots sure are taking the heat off us regional guys lately.
 
Word is he has been granted bail and is out. What I didn't understand was why he was held without bond for a few days. I mean, it was not like he was a 'flight risk" (what with not checking fuel and obstacles on the runway :rotfl:)

This is going to cost him BIG time. The FAA is likely to pull his tickets for a while.. maybe even a 709 ride for his DC-3 and at Delta and then the time off from Delta. Costly lesson.

He is fortunate he was not able to get airborne. That would have compounded a problem that was ballooning out of control.
