Delta or Southwest?

First off, WOW. Are you that bored? I'm sorry you have to personally attack me for not wanting to work at your company back in 2008. It happens.

Yeah I pretty much accepted all 3 jobs then turned 2 down, ethical? Nope, but I was 18 and I like to tease, what can I say. SFO created a scholarship for me(wasn't given out before or since) to help with my flying because I'm just that awesome, it got a fair amount of local press, and airlines were eager to hire me, I took advantage. I "weighed in my options" between working for DL with no one under age 40, working with a bunch of koolaide drinkers like yourself, or working at a place that I can actually hope to fly for in the near future. It was about the equivalent of telling 3 girls you love them, sleeping with all of them, then choosing the one who was best in bed and telling the others to get lost. Now what happens next MAY confuse you, so listen closely. I chose the puny inferior regional that doesn't have any big shiny airplanes with middle seats. GASP! I know right? ZOMGZ AIR FORCE ONES ON THE GOOOOOOOOOOOO! But I did have some valid reasons:
1) I hope to fly there.
2) They had the hottest chicks working there and the youngest crowd.
3) Southwest offers 4 more buddy passes(roundtrips) a year than I get, but I can throw a girl's fine ass into a first class seat to Seoul tomorrow if I want to. It ain't stuntin' if you got it. Rule 1054 of hood life, chapter 15, section 6c.
4) They fly to all the college towns such as CIC and SBP so I can party with friends I otherwise wouldn't see much of and...umm..."keep in touch" with lady friends.
And finally, I only had to put in 24 hours a week, and even then I can trade shifts so I never have to be there.

This brings up your next assertive holier-than-thou question, how does a 20 year old kid who lives at home, has 1 bill, and has a 10 minute flat commute from the driveway to the employee garage afford to travel on a whim and work 3 days a week? Ok, this is TOO HOT FOR TV, so listen up! There are a few methods for this. One, I make a little over $2000/mo(wait but I thought I don't get paid anything at this crappy regional part-time job?!?!) which is all money in my pocket, and I can rent cars at a discount even being well under 25(something I quickly found out the all mighty Whiskey November doesn't offer its young employees) and get hotel discounts in most cities, so that helps. Two, this is a hobby job for a lot of the people at SFO and most people are well-off from other careers, so I travel with them mostly. In fact, they would probably laugh you out of the sauna for your "Who needs more than 2 ZEDs a year for INTL?" comment. I have co-workers who commute from Buenos Ares and Honduras to work the ramp here for the benefits, such as free health care(BUT ITS A REGIONAL AIRLINE dubbya tee eff?!). I also already have trips to AMS, SXM, MNL(you guys may never see me again after that one), YVR, and AKL planned for 2011. I'm at a stage in my life where I have a disposable income, I'm having the time of my life, and my job is just a job. The way it should be when you're 20.

Long story shot, get off your high horse. I was giving my opinion based off what I know about each company, and you come in screaming in like a SEAL in the Bin Laden compound with rapid fire attacks on a personal Jihad against me after I said Southwest wasn't the best airline OF ALL TIME. Dude, I have a lot of friends who post here, hell my best friend does, so I don't know who you're trying to prove I'm a phony to when people who have known me for years could back it up in a second. There is a book called "How to win friends and influence people". You can get a copy of it from a guy named Mitch who used to post here. If I wasn't that much of a fan of Southwest before your posts, yours sure didn't help. But then again, I'm a big boy and I know I can't go taking one persons actions and applying it to the masses. That's stereotyping. Like assuming Skywest agents were cross-ultilized at SFO. You Regional Airlineist. Kthxbai.

Pssst, PS: In about 2 hours there is a Brasilia with a bunch of open seats going to Modesto. Can you just hop on it on a whim? Didn't think so. Point: Skywest.

Holy smokes, what got you so fired up?

I normally don't spend the time and effort to do so, but your reaction was strong enough that I went back through the thread to review bearsfan's posts. What in the world are you reacting to? I thought every one of his posts were very even handed and gave solid information, both good and bad, about Southwest.

I'm not coming close to seeing something that looks like a personal attack. And as far as: "Long story shot, get off your high horse. I was giving my opinion based off what I know about each company, and you come in screaming in like a SEAL in the Bin Laden compound with rapid fire attacks on a personal Jihad against me after I said Southwest wasn't the best airline OF ALL TIME."... um....what???

:dunno:

edit to add: I was going to talk some about choosing an employer based on the number of "hot girls" that work there, but I'll stay away from that for now.

WOW! I'd say you're the only one on a Jihad in this thread right now.

Seriously what's with you and the pi**ing match between OO and WN? We were talking about DL and Southwest and you're the one who came in saying "Southwest isn't all that" and brought Skywest into the conversation. You were the agitator with those initial comments and I was just setting the record straight because you were dishing out some completely bogus information about how Southwest employees nonrev. Judging by how you flew off the handle like that, I'd say maybe a nerve was being touched.

So when you were at your press conference on signing day (conjuring images of camera flashes and 3 baseball caps on the table) as the Jesus Christ of the airline industry and all the airlines were looking to lock you up for their ramp, you actually had that thought process of not wanting to work with the 40 year old guys, and the "kool aid drinkers"? I got news for you home slice. It's not such a hot thing to be a pilot working the ramp. You're not a rock star. I work along side probably 100 guys at my station who are ramp agents and hold varying pilot certs. Most of them don't even mention it. I've even considered going for my VFR and I have NO intentions of ever trying to fly for a living.

As you said, you're a kid living at home working PT as a regional ramp agent. That's pretty awesome, but someday the real world begins. For most people, in order to live the type of lifestyle that affords them the ability to travel, they need to be making some money.

Wait wait wait wait,... I missed some stuff.. You have Hondurans who commute to SFO to work the ramp PT?

And the almighty Wiskey November does indeed allow employees under 25 to rent cars without paying the inflated "under age fee". I used it all the time when I was under 25. Just enter Corp. ID 79315 when making a reservation with Alamo to see for yourself. Any more bad information you'd like to pass along to be corrected?

So when you're sitting in the sauna (spend much time in the sauna with your co workers after work? :|) with your well to do Honduran friends, do they laugh you out of the sauna when you tell them you live at your mom's house?

LOL que?

Lets all read my original post again, and then his response. The only thing I said about Skywest was that I picked it over DL and WN for the schedule, one sentence in my whole post. Re-read what I said "homeslice". I didn't really "bring them into the conversation". I then went on to talk about the benefits of each airline as I was taught to understand them. I said some nice things about WN, I just said they wern't that amazing and basically that I don't believe all the hype. You then went on to ridicule me about working for Skywest and basically saying I was full of crap for thinking I picked the best company and that nothing I'm saying can be true in some personal attack, but I'm the one in the wrong for giving an online bitch slap right? How is it not a personal attack when someone questions how I work and live out of the blue and calls me out? When called out, you pop the trunk and let the sucker get some(Rule 678 of hood life, chapter 11, section 3b). In fact, he's continued to do so. But I'm done here.

Oh is that what you think you're doing here? Delivering online bitch slaps? Do you think you're being witty with your references to your made up "hood manual"? You're embarrassing yourself right now.

I think one critical aspect of all of this that you're failing to see is the context of this thread and where your initial post fit into it. What were we having a conversation about before you popped in? Do you even know? Or did you just have your own topic in mind? Out of nowhere you come in with the "ZOMGZ SOUTHWEST!" comments, then proceeded to carry on about how non reving is at Southwest. Well as it turns out, you didn't even know what you were talking about. You don't see where you were out of line? Then you proceed to go on about how you got hired at all 3 airlines at the same time (which frankly I don't believe for one second), and on and on about Skywest. Skywest was not one of the aforementioned candidates. Why are we talking about Skywest? Furthermore, why are we talking about Skywest and how Southwest "isn't all that"? These are the kind of comments that come from people with some sort of a complex. What were your intentions when you initiated participation in this thread OTHER than to be an antagonist and to take a swipe at Southwest?

Well, a nice twist to this all:

I get a phone call after I just finished up my SIDA badge stuff at the airport to tell me that training is indefinitely postponed. Apparently, the class that got hired haven't cleared their backgrounds yet. I'm a little skeptical. I asked if the position is still going to be available and I got a "I think so." Hmm....

Maybe Southwest is actually gonna be the option to choose.

I know that lately the federal background checks have been taking an extremely long time, and it's occurring on Southwest's end too. It's not stopping us from bringing in new classes though. We're escorting our new hires on the airfield until they recieve their SIDA badges.

This is true...it took a LONG time for everyone in my class at SouthernJets to get cleared. I wouldn't worry too much about it Bigey.

Ahhh okay. That makes me feel better!

Wait, Cav, you're at SouthernJets now? When did that happen?

Last fall. Currently on the 9 but heading to Airbus school in June. Probably see you around LAX this summer.

Wow, I'm behind! Late congratulations!

I'm actually in Boston now. I moved here around August, so if you make your way out here, we'll have to meet for some lunch!

Sounds good! Depending how the scheduling works, we'll have to venture into the city with my car to find a good place to eat. Maybe some New England sea food!

Not to stir up an old thread, but one last question to ask!

I heard that being under the Ready Reserve position, we're limited to 30 flight days (15 round trip flights) with 18 of those being allowed to be used internationally? Is this true that it isn't unlimited?
