Just got word that Delta is hiring - to see the details go to http://delta.greatjob.net and click on "Technical Operations" and then "Assistant Flight Superintendent." Looks like they are requiring three years of experience to apply. Good luck to everyone who throws their hat in the ring!
 
Pretty good chance you will have to take a math/written and personality test. If so you will have to pass all 3 to continue the interview process.
 
If it's anything like what the pilots get (and I'm told it is), then it's over 500 questions for the psych eval, plus math/aptitude testing...Not sure if there is a dispatch knowledge test.

The math/written test and personality test are done prior to lunch. If you pass all 3 you will interview after lunch. I'm 95% sure there is a dispatch written test, but I'm not sure how extensive it is. Starting pay (as of last year this time) was $54k, but that's for full dispatch. I would suspect the assist is 74-80% of that number, but I'm not certain.
 
Any idea what kind of math and which personality inventory they use?

Any one recall the vintage SNL skit with Chevy Chase as President Ford where the punch line is "It was my understanding that there would be no math involved" :)
 
I remember some of the math test involved converting money from one type of currency to another
 
I have heard that there testing is pretty intense, and if you are lucky enough to pass it, then give yourself a pat on the back and celebrate with a couple of cold beers. Has anyone heard from DL yet?
 
I heard from a management source at DL that so far only 3 have taken the early retirement plan. Also some internals apparently have already interviewed.

So why are they offering people early retirement and hiring internals at the same time? Is this their way of trying to get rid of the high paid senior people while hiring ramp rats who will work for pennies on the dollar?

Yes, because that's the "new" corporate America model. It's no longer about embracing your loyal employees the ones that have been around 25+ years etc. It works that way on all levels in our industry now. Ramp, CSA and apparently Dispatch now. They never want people to top out ever again. Not like the old days. So the plan they have is to 1. Watch them like hawks to fire them for any reason or 2. Offer buyouts. Unfortunately this trend started up and it doesn't look like it's going away anytime soon.
 
Part of it is just good business sense: offer financial incentive to someone who topped out 15 yrs ago to get out. It's an offer, not a mandate, so no one who thinks it's a bad idea has to take it.
There's actually nothing "new" about it - this was done many years ago for pilots at American't, and some of them got big money to get out.
 
As a business major I completly understand why management is doing that but as an applicant of the latest dispatch position they had open it makes me leary of wanting to pursue a long time career with them. And I didnt mean any disrespect to ramp rats appyling for the job, I was there at one time in my life but I have also put in alot of work to get to where I am now so I could be considered for a position with them.

Well I wouldn't be too upset with them offering sweet packages to senior people to retire all companies have done it..I work for FX and they have done it also.. Doesn't mean you have to take it. They do it to get the senior people who have topped out vacation and salary to retire or leave and yes they bring in new people at a lower salary and vacation.
