Delta faces 'very high risk' of bankruptcy

Re: Delta faces \'very high risk\' of bankruptcy

How come whenever Delta tries to lower costs, they continue to lose money. How unfair! Delta should get some financing from GE, AMEX, and Boeing to help them survive, and sell off Comair.

Re: Delta faces \'very high risk\' of bankruptcy

Have you seen the cost of oil these days?

Since you've got the solution to Delta's problems, I've got a new one for you. How should we solve the $70 a barrel oil problem?

TAKE OVER THE OPEC! In reality though, it is nearly impossible.

For commercial energy, move to nuclear power, no matter what the anti-nuclear liars say.

says you! I - takes the time - time out of my day to keep myself from the boredom! JC provides just enough to get thru the day! hahaha

honestly, i'm pretty darn busy right now.. i just spread the work out on a daily basis in order to keep me busy! If i got it all done today, i wouldn't have anything to do tomorrow!

Ditto... on the bored at work JC makes the day fly by faster bit!
But since I'm not an engineer and were sharing work stories. I'll jump in and say that. I just closed somebodies account had a $55k line who has been out of work for two years.
He just paid account off last week. Then writes a conveience chceck for $55k which ques him into my department for risk.
After careful examination of the bureau I see he actually balanced transferred from MBNA to pay off Chase.
That was when I found out he was playing the BALCON game on his five credit cards.
So I call dude and he is like oh I'm out of work, been out for two years...who is dumb enough to tell someone calling from the bank that!
So I'm like okay sir well from what you have told me I'm going to have to close your account and decline you convience check.
At which time he starts begging me not to becuase he has his mortagage and car payment due in 2 weeks.
His other 4 cards have no available credit on them cause he balance transferred all of 4 cards balance to pay off his Chase card so all his money is on one card and I just closed it.
So he is pennyless. As he was using that money off his cards to live off for like everything.
Yikes...someone is gonna be homeless, hungry and carless ina few weeks.
While not as exciting as an engineers day at work still found it funny!

God save Delta....dude you reached a new all time low! Delta already got financing from AMEX as for further financing it may or may not be difficult as there ability to recieve financing is directly related to there business credit score and it doesn't help that there stock is in the crapper and they have been downgraded to "junk" status.
Is financing still a reality yes but they did just sell off ASA shore up some cash.
Like Tony said the combination of oil prices and low fares is killing not just Delta but all legacy carriers bottom line.
Dude...Doug works for DL his livelyhood depends on it and your more of a cheerleader then he do us all a favor and chill and just grow up already!!!

[/ QUOTE ]we should move to a different type of energy source.. like using jet fuel to get the jet above cloud layers... then start powering things with UV radiation or solar heat (since we know there's plenty of that up there)...

you'd think with all the resources we have - like digestable waste/compost or methane, other substances normally thrown out... we'd have the ability to *create* other methods of energy...rubbing two pieces of sand paper together (friction)...static energy...one lightning bolt has enough energy to start a fire or blow up a house - why can't we culture that type of energy and turn it into something useful? who knows...but there's got to be something out there beyond oil!

Hydrogen is as much of an in-flux energy as nuclear is.. if it blows up, it blows in a big way

so you gotta wonder why the no-nuke energy people are ok with using hydrogren..but that's just another discussion all on it's own!

Not just the legacy carriers, my friend. Even Southwest would have lost money without hedging for fuel.

Yup. That's how bad it is. Even what is widely considered the best run airline can't make money without the use of derivatives.

And you're right about the cheerleading, man.

The concern that people have with Nuclear Power is the waste products and not always the idea of a loud boom.

The price for a barrel of oil is the airlines problem, they need gas to power their aircraft, so the high price of oil is the cost of doing business.

As for Delta's financial problems, that is up to Delta Airlines to figure out, but, the problems started years ago and will take some time for Delta to fix the problems...

Re: Delta faces \'very high risk\' of bankruptcy

Our country will continue to be hostage to oil, and the middle east countries it comes from as long as people like our current president are still in office. Parading around in their big F350s.

question is - is Chase still going to make him pay back the money? how they gonna do that and/or is it considered a loss?

[/ QUOTE ]they're not the only ones parading in F350's!! look at the folks who buy hummer's or even SUV's.. heck, i have an SUV myself and with the gas i'm dishing out on a bi-weekly basis, i'm ready to get an alternative fuel type car...esp since my bimmer's been in the shop ever 2/3 months (with only 54K miles on it)..i think my dealership is messing with me service wise!

but besides that point...if people stopped driving/buying the big honkin cars & started riding more transit or buying better efficiency cars, they'd probably notice the big dip in the gas profit pocket!

I don't think the pres can change anything about the oil prices.. but i betcha the VP could do something since he's affiliated (or used to be?) with the oil guys...

Re: Delta faces \'very high risk\' of bankruptcy

No doubt. My POS Pontiac has been in the shop less than the Bimmer.

Weirdness...

No he doesn't have to pay Chase back because we closed his accnt with a zero bal.
If you remember he BALCON or balance transferred to non bank people. The entire balance owed to Chase from another card so Chase was paid off.
But he kept transferring his other card balances on to other cards. We were his last stop. So his other cards are maxed out.
If the other banks close his cards he still has to repay the balances.Just because a credit card is paid off doesn't mean a cardholder is in the free and clear.
The debt remains. The card is just closed!

Re: Delta faces \'very high risk\' of bankruptcy

You're way too nice for Chase, Max! We had a buddy that worked in collections for Discover and she was meeeeeean. We're talking Cruella DeVille mean (Kristie: It was the wife of our friend who was 'painfully tall')

Re: Delta faces \'very high risk\' of bankruptcy

Oh I made my escape from collections in April. I now work in credit as an underwriter.
I also review current customers accnts to see if they should stay Chase customers. I also do the nasty re-prices 29% interest anyone...que evil laugh!
