Delta Disqualifiers

When you interview others for an opening for your company, you set metrics that you think are important to the success of your company.

Absolutely. And I would defend those criteria. I would not expect my employees to do so, however, and I would be quite unhappy with them if they put down people who were not selected by making it sound as if they were not in the proper "tier."

There's a reason no two Airlines in the entire industry have an identical interview process.

You're very good at dodging questions. You have still not addressed why your airline is not only just as successful, but in fact more so, after taking on roughly 6,000 pilots who did not pass your favorite interview process, and in fact are generally considered to have come from a diametrically opposed corporate "culture."

There's a reason the accounting department is separate from Human Resources.
Ya, but when the accounting department calls up HR and says we have 500 too many pilots, HR pulls the last 500 numbers and sends them packing.
In companies that big, it's impossible to be anything more than a number on a seniority list.

Jesus... Mother D has some pilots just as brainwashed as they've got their Flight Attendants.
My company is also unnecessarily picky about who they hire right now, too. Many of us can't get strong candidates hired, simply because they think they have the same pull as FedEx and UPS (literally, I was asked in my interview a couple years ago if I'd leave for FedEx, given the chance).

The difference is, regular line schmucks like me make fun of them for trying to hire astronauts. There's nothing special about pilots for ABC Airways vs. any other carrier. We have our problem children like anyone else.

When you used to hire people based on zip code, I'm not sure how they could think that, lol.

I'd rather hire a guy like this than hire some arrogant jerk who thinks he's better than other people any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

That's nice. Now what that has to do with Delta or any airline selecting the best fit for THEIR airline I don't know.

Hiring Checklist:
1. Can I endure spending four or five days with this person without wanting to kill them?

2. Can they fly the airplane to PTS in the sim, exhibit good judgment and crm and so on?

3. Are they trainable and do they want to learn?

This is all that should matter. Make it a damn lottery for your number to come up for the interview.

I see this question. I'm not defending or showing some kind of favoritism toward Delta's interview process, I'm addressing the reasoning behind the madness. If someone understands the system, they more efficiently work to increase their odds of landing and interview.

As far as the cultures merging, no one is saying the Delta culture is the end all be all of perfect culture. It was a merger of cultures that worked. If you want me to say at the end of the day it all really doesn't matter that true. But that won't get anybody hired any sooner because the reality is the airlines have choice these days, the competition is stiff, and you have every right to say the metrics are absurd, but it won't get anyone hired any sooner, if at all.
