In regards to this... actually, a "74" is an airplane! you have an a TON of information to learn if you want to be a pilot and i would keep in tune with that at all times on this board because people will bring it to your attention and sometimes not in a nice way...a lot of airplanes have acronyms or nicknames... such as sometimes a 747 is called "74" or 737 is called "73" to shorten and is understandable by most aviation related peeps....i don't know why, it just is.

I'm surprise MSTU_Av8er just said WOW and didn't at least try to explain what's wrong with that statement....Comeon Lloyd...How does one expect a person to learn with remarks like that? obviously Boieng747 doesn't know any better :o

Comair
ASA
Skywest
Chautauqua
Shuttle America
Freedom
Pinnacle
Expressjet
Big Sky

ASA is owned by Skywest but each hire separately, Chautauqua and Shuttle America are two certificates held by Republic, Freedom is a certificate held by Mesa Air Group.
This "Portfolio Concept" is Delta's protection against labor unrest at the regional level. (Example: Comair Strike)

So ALL of these airlines are Delta Connection, or part of Skyteam, their alliance group. I say this because i know NW's regional is Pinnacle, and Continental's is Express. I may ad all are part of Skyteam.

Two different things.

I believe SkyTeam is a marketing vehicle where the carriers can sell tickets on each other's flights, and frequent fliers get mileage credit on this - just like AA's One World Alliance.

However, these other airlines (collectively referred to as Regionals) provide feeder service on smaller aircraft to the mainline (Delta) under Delta's Brand Name. To the consumer, it looks like one airline, when it's really two.

Make more sense?

All of the airlines he posted are "Delta Connection".

But some of those regionals fly for other mainline carriers as well.

For example... you stated that Continental's regional is "Express". Actually, "Delta Connection" and "Continental Express" are little more than marketing terms.

As I stated in my earlier post above... Continental "Express" is actually made up of two carriers. ExpressJet and Chautauqua... just as Delta Connection is made up of multiple carriers... some of which are the same carriers that fly under the Continental Express banner.

So, they are just marketing terms and known as other airlines like chautauqua. These airlines just use Continental Express and Delta Connection? Can you get hired by Express or connection? Or do you have to go to Pinnacle, ASA, etc.

Confusing stuff.

You'd get hired and paid by XpressJet, Republic, Mesa, American Eagle, ASA, Skywest, Colgan, Pinnacle, etc...

What it says on the outside of the airplane, though, is up for bid. Pinnacle does the RJ flying for Northwest right now. Next year it could be for someone else.

But also learn abbreviations for commercial airliners.

74=747, 744=747-400, 752=757-200, 738=737-800, 763/764= 767-300 & 767-400 respectively.

Now, guess what a 773 is?

Also, if you want to correct the spelling of your screenname, just PM and admin or mode, and they'll correct the spelling for you!
