7ER AND OTHER RUMORS

Quite a few pilots have asked about a 7ER base in Seattle. Here is what we have heard.

Delta network planning is currently analyzing whether an ER base in SEA makes sense. No decision has yet been made, but know that SEA as well as other bases/categories, are being considered. For instance the company is looking into using the A-330 in east coast bases, the A-320 in SLC and the DC-9 in ATL. These are only examples and not an exhaustive list of what is being considered.
Also, know that any changes will only be made after a thorough analysis of the market.

How does that usually work out in terms of seniority relative to other bases? E.g., you hear about someone finally becoming senior at one base to have a chance at transferring to another and possibly get what they bid.

Would a new (to DAL) base be relatively low?

Ah I did not know that! So, where are the pilots flying the 757's over there based? Do they just commute from home to NRT?

They are based at any base in the US that DAL/NWA has a 757 category. The NRT trips start and end with a scheduled deadhead from their domicile. The trips are built as two week trips.

For now. The A plan is for a SEA ER base to fly 767s to NRT, then fly 757s intra Asia, then a 767 home. Does away with the deadheads. That said, I'm sure things will change in the next 4 to 6 weeks! Already hearing that the waypoint passage procedures we just changed to may be changing again in the near future. One rumor is doing away with the plotting chart altogether, although I don't put too much stock in that one.

Yup, have heard that too. Also heard that in the meantime the flying might go ahead and start with crews deadheading in from other bases or actually flying the flight to SEA themselves.
