Delta Airllines Internship

I heard it's difficult for someone not from a college flight program listed below to get the internship:

For an internship in Flight Operations, Pilot Recruiting, Flight Training or with the Chief Pilots' Office, you must be currently enrolled at one of the following schools:

Auburn University
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Purdue University
University of North Dakota
Western Michigan

I'm gonna try to apply next year when I'm a Senior here at UND.

Does anyone know if Continental and/or Expressjet has an internship like this one, and where I could find info about it?

XJet and CAL have internship programs. I was an intern with CAL back in 01 and the newest interns at XJT just gave me my new FOM 2 days ago. I highly recommend one if you're at an aviation college.

Does it count if I'm doing aerospace engineering or do the airlines have any internship programs for this field?

Do you have to be a flight major to do the internship? I'll be going to Western Michigan but I won't be a flight major because I'm (hopefully temporarily) unable to fly.

I don't think the airlines hire very many aerospace engineers. That's more of an aircraft manufacturers' (and suppliers') need.

If they don't have much use for aerospace engineers in general, there probably isn't much demand for interns with that background as well.

Just a guess on my part....

I know ATA has a big eng internship program. They hire them, full time, per demand.

Yea, do an internship, I did AA, hence my B767-300ER photo!

Can you do the CAL/XJT internship even if you aren't in a flight program, but you have all your ratings?

I don't know about XJT, but I don't think you can with CAL. You might want to check your college's Career office.

One of my best friends went to ATL to interview for the summer internship a couple of months ago. He didn't get it, but the it sounded like they were impressed by him and told him that he's got a fairly high chance of getting it for this fall.

From what I understand they put you in the safety office, but you have the option of spending days at other offices as well. It also sounded like they work closesly with the NTSB and their internship program. You have the option of swapping places with the NTSB's intern for a week. The other huge upside is that they pay $11 an hour. Not to many internships out there that still pay.

He interviewed with XJet, Fly I, and JBlue, and said the only one he really wanted was the Delta one, so I geuss he was pretty impressed by what they had to offer. I'll keep ya posted if he gets the job, I'm sure he'd be happy to come on and share his experiences.

Found this on google:

Has anyone tried it?

I am currently in this internship. Be aware that the internship is not with Delta, but with Atlantic Southeast Airlines. Delta does have an internship program, but from what I understand it is very difficult to get into since they do not take many interns.

You do not have to be a flight intern, but you do not get lower hiring minima if you are not from one of the approved schools. The site hasn't been updated lately, but FlightSafety grads are now included if they have completed their CFI at FlightSafety, and gone through the CFI hiring process at FSI successfully.

I was an instructor at FSI, and I applied for this internship in February, and came here in March. Because most interns are in school, the turnaround is normally longer than that.

The internship here is awesome, so feel free to PM me for more information.
